i’m just wondering what you all think about the hijaab. is it haram if you dont where it? or is dressing modestly considered perfectly ok? your opinions plz
Asalamu Alaikum,
This is the proof which makes wearing hijaab mandatory on women.
Here are the verses:
"O Prophet, tell your wives and daughters and the believing women to draw their outer garments around them (when they go out or are among men). That is better in order that they may be known (to be Muslims) and not annoyed..." (Qur'an 33:59)
-> 1. A woman in hijab is recognized to be Muslim right away to anyone who sees her
-> 2. A woman in hijab is less likely to draw the negative attention of men
"And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; and that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what must ordinarily appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands..." (Qur'an 24:30-31)
-> Hair is considered part of a womans beauty and ornament
The hadith:
"Ayesha (R) reported that Asmaa the daughter of Abu Bakr (R) came to the Messenger of Allah (S) while wearing thin clothing. He approached her and said: 'O Asmaa! When a girl reaches the menstrual age, it is not proper that anything should remain exposed except this and this. He pointed to the face and hands." (Abu Dawood)
-> This makes it clear for us as to what should be covered and doesnt have to be
Knowing this, Muslim women should make wearing hijaab one of their goals in trying to please Allah SWT.
Wearing modest clothing is a good step to attaining this goal, and is a great thing to do as a stepping stone. I know sisters who first decided to stop wearing short sleeves, then started wearing baggy clothing, and then finally started wearing hijaab. May Allah SWT give all the sisters of the world the strength to do what pleases Him.

Not wearing Hijaab is HARAM. This is the bottom line. Hair is considered part of a woman's aurah and whatever her aurah is she has to conver it.
Hijab does not have to be worn in front of the mahram but whenever non-mahram is present of whenever going out in oublic, Hijab needs to be worn if no sins (ghunna) are to be taken for it.
