highlights, lowlights and streaking

what’s the difference?

and i would like to get some funky colors in my hair, nothing blond or brown (yuck), what would i call that?

Well highlights is when you add a lighter tone to your hair where as lowlights is when you add a darker tone to your hair.

Streaking is more complex and it involves coloring of all your hair (wider n thicker) where as in high/low lights you can have either full head, head head or sections.

I think i have got it correct but please do correct me if i am wrong here.

Highlights are usually a lighter color and are meant to add "volume" to u're hair and brighten-up u're hair.. and lowlights darken and deepens the hair.. for balance. Think blonde/chammomile for highlights and red/auburn as lowlights (just an example!)

Re: highlights, lowlights and streaking

ohhhhhh so now it makes sense.

say i want to add some deep purple, or red "streaks" to my hair...what would i call that?

If it's u're overall hair it's called a tint..if u're using only one color they'd bleach sections and dye it the red/purple u want.. (im assuming u want just 1 color) so it's streaks!

If u break the monotony with another color such as deep auburn or copper then it wud be lowlites..

Re: highlights, lowlights and streaking

aww man they're going to bleach it!? :(

Yes, if u want the real plum/berry color :) darker hair colors require bleaching to get rid of pigment so the dye can penetrate. Otherwise u're hair wud just have a "tint" rathar than a stark difference...

Re: highlights, lowlights and streaking

*oooh....this makes tons of sense! But after the last spiral perm (2 years ago)...my hair totally died! :( *sad Those chemicalsss sigh

But now that it is back to being normal.... black and straight...I want something else....What could be the least damaging??**

The least damaging wud be a "tint" that gives a nice change... :)

Bleaching the hair can lead to premature greying..

Re: highlights, lowlights and streaking

hey khumi dont bleach ur hair plz :(

and if u want thos efunky thingies then saloon dies and those girly hair colors r gonna do nuthign and tints wotn even show.

if u happen to know a brand called"manic panic" ????

try those they r those matellic dies that give real funky and bright colours and they dont need bleaching ur hair

or i belive clairol had these metallc dies too under the name of "jazzing" they didnt have many colours jst hot pink and purple or may be they have more colours but i have jst seen these 2 colours. they r semi permanent dies but they dotn require bleaching and r those "funky" colors that ur talkign bout:D

not sure if clairol still makes jazzing or they discontinued but u can still try manic panic

red hair colors:D they r in the middle of spectrum and they r least damaging

lightening or darkening ur hair always damages the hair. red is kinda in the middle so red colors r not that harsh as compared to other colors

^ For red colors to take-on a dark colored hair girl, they'd have to bleach the hair off it's natural pigment in order for the color to penetrate and look like the swatches. Dark hues are actually the least damaging.. but for any stark diff u'd have to have u're hair bleached.

hi gina,,plzz tell me dar is there any difference in colors(in market) for complte dye(overall head) n highlights?or can we apply any sharp color for streakng even if not mentioned especially for highlights or streaks??should i buy particular highlites or streak mentioned color frm market?
