higher moral ground??

we treat women like animals. we are barely better than them ourselves.

how the eff can we claim the higher moral ground then? how are women here worse off than what they would be should they entrust themselves to our tender hands?

and then. we had the meerwala case.

and then i read about this case in karachi where a deaf, mute, impaired girl got onto a bus. ofcourse our representatives there acted like complete gentlemen then.

we dont have .basic.human.decency.

and we have the effing nerve to take the higher moral ground? “hijab”?

what the hell has hijab done that has made us less bestial? what has islam done for us?

our women need hijab to have any rights..any say on their treatment at the hands of muslims.

we deserve to be decimated.

Lots. The question is, what have patriarchal societies, poverty, illiteracy, wars and desperation caused.

very true- to quote someone I knew who had travelled the world - "humanity (Insaniyat) starts as soon as you leave the muslim countries" . I know we can't blame islam for that as it does not teach all this "hewaniyat"- but what I don't understand is - why is it only the muslim countries that are so backwards???

We don't follow the only "Law/Shariat" we know, what else will happen?

^^ we don't?? pray tell me what more you want to enforce on the public out of this magnificent 'Sharia' you talk about that will cure all ills?

PA , we dont need more, it would be sufficient if they just implement the laws they already have on books (e.g Pakistani Constitution). That will be enough for starters.

You think shariat tells you to be dishonest, lie, be selfish etc?

^^ you think Sharia has been able to fix these social evils?? What kind of people need religious edicts to shave off their pubes?

Speak for yourself.

Maybe the question should be changed to, what have you done for Islam?

Just because certain people behave in a certain manner, you cannot label the whole community and their descendants for the ill.

Muslim women are treated a damn site better than their Western counterparts who are treated like meat market slapper machines. Look at the whole history of women before condemning the whole Faith.

On the same note, you can question if QURAN has been able to fix those social evils? Naoozbillah.

let's deal with the prevalent 'Sharia' and leave Qur'an out of it.. just the way it's always been done.

first off.

i dont entirely agree with the sentiment i wrote the thread with coming fresh off from reading the article. i for one have took pride in the way our women are viewed as protected individuals. thus the vitriolic reaction.

nevertheless, regarding the "meat market" argument you put forward

  • everyone has notions of dignity, and the fact that western women can choose to preserve their dignity, arguably means that its safe should they choose to do so.

  • i believe the "meat market" is largely caused by a combination of social/economic factors present both in the west and in the muslim world. most of these factors would remain, even in "proper" islamic states like KSA, Iran, Afghanistan.

You say that my basis were the actions of a few people. I will not attempt to prove to you just how prevalent this happens to be in our society, but if you're in Pakistan, perhaps you should go to the OPD/emergency ward of any government hospital and see for yourself if our religion has made us any better protectors of our women, or if we even deserve to be in that position.

The saddest part is that our educated class has fewer honour killings, fewer exploding gas tanks, and never has a proper judge decreed that a woman be gangraped. Is it a coincidence that this class is also more westernised? I hope so.

Far be it for me to think that this is reason for me to find western culture superior to ours, no. I'm still sure that our way of life, as it should be, is better than theirs, as it is. I'm just hoping one of you would be able to articulate their reasons better than I can.

As for what I have done for Islam, I believe Islam was complete the day Allah said it was. What we do for the world (ourselves included) as muslims is what we should think about. I've begun with a small part of that, myself.

regards.
