"NEW DELHI: India reported 122,637 suicides last year — an average of 336 every day — with more men ending their lives than women, the latest report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has revealed. "
Very sad indeed. I feel for the poor souls.
Indian public is getting very frustrated with the politicians. Bombay tragedy could have provided a much needed breathing space to govt. Now very less concerned indians are even mentioning these social problems.
Any indian here to tell us what is the reason for this high suicide rate?

hunh? what? what's the Mumbai tragedy gotta do with the suicide problems in India?
Bhai jaan, if people keep hearing about these suicides - which themselves are a result of social unjust and lack of opportunities for poor etc. - coupled with many more other social problems, their patience with politicians starts wearing thin. You know civil unrest is always on the corner in this case.
Now if some tragedy like mumbai occurs, priorities change, people forget anything else. So in this sense, Mumbai tragedy was a definitely a blessing in disguise for indian govt.
Danday wala bhai you seem to be obsessed with India now a days and all your energies are dedicated to India bashing.
I do not think that his crusade against India in this forum will help us win any kind of war against India. We are not at war with India anyways.
Every time I logon to GS I see two or three negative threads against India by you.
Sensible dialogue is entirely different than what you are doing.
I would like to see your talent to be used for some positive activity to diffuse the tensions if any is left. You are not doing a good job at it.
Both the governments are working the problems and issues out in a very sensible manner no manner whatever you say. Your crusade against India is not going to help diffusing the tension. I am sure you do not want to see any kind of war between Indian and Pakistan . There is no armed movement , there are no aerial attacks , what are you upset about.
No I am not an Indian , I am not Indian sympathizer , but I am a sensible patriotic Pakistani and I would like to see all the issues between India and Pakistan resolved in a peaceful manner.

why are you so hell bent on talking about "indirect" relationships these days...
it's pretty insensitive to call the attacks a blessing in disguise - no matter who you're directing the statement towards - the state or the public.
Its pretty strange Mr. Dandey_wala is so concerned about suicides in india when pak itself is going through a very difficult stage..the economy is in tantrums, millitancy, civil unrest, extremism, etc to name a few..
Until recently I have been trying to be nice with our neighbors. But bitter reality is that we have got a very aggressive bully on our eastern border, always threatening with war. No matter how many peace efforts you make and how many concessions you give him, he will always find another excuse.
And this is why I think I should do a little research on this strange behavior.
And of course having a look at its social structure might help.
