high sugar levels

My 5 year old daughter was getting UTIs so she was referred to a specialist, turns out she could be diabetic. Im very very upset about this, did anyone here have diabetes as a child? or does anyone know of any cildren with this problem? Can it be well managed?

Re: high sugar levels

a co-worker's daughter was 4 when she was diagnosed with diabetes. it was a similar shock but from knowing her, i can say it can be safely managed. her daughter is now 6 and wears the pump which regulates her insulin automatically so she doesn't have to worry about what she eats all the time. my colleague and her husband were both trained in managing her diabetes, giving her insulin if required, and recognizing signs of low sugar levels. her teachers were also informed as was the school nurse. this is a shocking and upsetting thing for your family and i'm sorry, but if its any comfort, know that many families deal with similar situations and still have happy children. the biggest thing is that kids are very resilient and her daughter having lived with diabetes almost from the start, has a better idea of how to manage it than if she'd gotten it as a teenager and had to adjust her lifestyle entirely.
if you'd like to speak to my colleague about her experiences, let me know and i'll pass on her info to you. she's a super nice lady and very willing to share her knowledge.

Re: high sugar levels

**i'm sorry to hear that and iA everything will be fine and she'll lead a normal life. aameen.

i knew a family many years ago and one of the girls * had diabetes. she is 17 now and doing just fine masha Allah.

so, plz don't panic. iA, everything will be manageable and she'll be fine :)***

Thank you for your encouraging words guys, please pray for us. She will be having a glucose intolerance test tomorrow, her glucose levels are very high in the blood 14.3 and it should be under 5, however its strange but there is nothing in the urine!

Re: high sugar levels

Sorry to hear that seashell, hope things go well tomorrow.
Do you have a history of diabetes in the family?
What are the eating habits and activity levels like?

Re: high sugar levels

My friend from high school had diabetes from age 6 and alhamdullilah she is managing pretty well. Just got to take extra care of yourself but no big deal.

One of our class mates was diabetic from childhood because her mother had diabetes.
