High Speed Internet Services in toronto

Yes i’m going on a budgeting spree

I currently have Rogers Express High Speed internet which i pay like $45 bucks for. I am considering switcing to VoIP and then getting rid of my landline for which i pay an additional $70 something (sab mirch masaala milaa kar).

So my questions.

  1. If i decide to quit rogers and go with a cheaper alternative, what alternatives are there (except Bell DSL).

  2. What is the minimum connection speed required to have VoIP work properly.

Thankyou.

Sincerely,
Captain Lota

Re: High Speed Internet Services in toronto

You should look into dry DSLs. They work without you having a phone line. They cost 29.99$ for the 3mb DSLs in montreal.

Check out http://www.canadianisp.com/ for ISPs in your city. Look at their rating. Any ISP with a 4+ rating with atleast 30 votes is a good bet.

As for VOIP, they don’t need that much bandwidth. DSL should be fine. But again, you can check the requirements with the VOIP provider just to be safe.

Re: High Speed Internet Services in toronto

Nothing beats Rogers Hi-Speed Internet.

I've had Sympatico Hi-Speed, but it wasn't the same. The pages would load instantly, but downloads and uploads were quite slow.

Re: High Speed Internet Services in toronto

Nothing can beat 3web … u have to pay 9.99 for first 3 months… then the regular monthly bill is just 29.99 $

check out their website at www.3web.com
my uploading speed is 424-430 kbps and downloading speed is 500kbps…pretty good!!!

i say u shud give 3web a try ..ull never have trouble with it…i guarantee u …

ps: let me know if u’re interested in it..becuz then ill send u a link from where u can fill a forum and with that we both will be able to use one month of service for absolutely no cost !!!

Re: High Speed Internet Services in toronto

FF, you caught my attention there.... I am desperately in need of high speed, but my budget doesnt give me any room.

That sounds nice... Bolay tow... is there a contract?

PS. How is the IP, i know for Rogers, its static. but for sympatico, its dynamic. But then again sympatico's speed differs on your location. I got the crapiest service ever.

Re: High Speed Internet Services in toronto

Brother, if u're interested just PM me and ill send u a referral forum which u can fill in and get a one month free of 3web internet service ( as well as ill get it too )..
There is absolutely NO contract.. ull just fill the forum ( in my case i called them to get some info ) and they'll send u installation kit, what all u would have to do is unplug the previous modem and plug-in the new modem of 3web that u'll get in that installation kit and thats it........ure online!.

and its absolutely not like sympatico where u have to download the software and u wont get online unless u have the specific software installed in ur pc ...u are online 24/7 ( just like rogers )...but with 3web ull start saving about 15 dollars monthly, with exactly the same service!!!!

Re: High Speed Internet Services in toronto

Anything that is cable usually comes with Dynamic IP unless u pay for static. DSL on the other hand is usually static.

The only advantage u can have of cable is that, put a router & leave it on 24/7, ur IP will never change.

Re: High Speed Internet Services in toronto

captain: go back to our hosting company's homepage and look at their internet services too. .. i would say PRETTY competitive..

Re: High Speed Internet Services in toronto

buy the adsl/dsl modem for 50-100 bucks and then enjoy savings from ISP. They charge you $9.99+TAX for modem only. You can recover the cost of your modem within 6-8 months plus the high speed internet would be for $30+, which is not bad

Re: High Speed Internet Services in toronto

^ Once you have done that you can then add VoIP

Re: High Speed Internet Services in toronto

faizy, whats your website for hosting?

Re: High Speed Internet Services in toronto

faizy.ca :p

Re: High Speed Internet Services in toronto

so.... 2+ years, whats the verdict? after moving and setting up my apartment, now i am in the scene again for setting up networks... so far my current config is (downgraded to) rogers express for access (around 40something), 9.99/mth voip line for unlimited north american/local/local911/voicemail/display/standard-3-network-services, 3.5/mth for 500gb.space+2TB transfer (on which my dot.ca is being hosted for another 10/yr).

due to practice of networking, and heavy downloading/uploading, my account keeps bypassing 60gig limit with rogers. now my alternatives are dsl with my hosting+voip provider (18.95/mth for 1st year, 29.99 afterwards) and because of no active line, dry dsl loop (another 8/mth).

i checked other providers, and seems like EVENTUALLY gta/ontario will get hit with usage-based capping. anybody with small companies' experience please share.. (dsl and cable) cable seems to be limited and complicated cuz of physical cabling being same. 3web i am sort of hesitant about. FF are u still on that?

Re: High Speed Internet Services in toronto

i'm very happy with Rogers. i've a bundle so i get 15% discount. i pay like $400 a monthe for 3 cell fones, full-house cable with 3 PVR's 7 specialty channels, home fone, high speed internet...so its pretty cheap for all what i got. long live Rogers! :)

Re: High Speed Internet Services in toronto

That's a lot of stuff to get for 15%. If I were you I'd move to the US just for that.

Re: High Speed Internet Services in toronto

i do NOT like in the states except cheaper air fares lol...how much wud that cost in the US what i have in Canada? must be cheaper...eh? i pay $400 after all the discounts. its like tax free coz there is 13% tax here.

Re: High Speed Internet Services in toronto

please don't advertise here......put this sort of advertisement in the classified section.
thanks!

Re: High Speed Internet Services in toronto

I'm with TekSavvy for high speed internet. They're basically Rogers resellers. Their cap is 300GB (instead of Roger's 60GB) and the best part is.... torrents download at 1MB/s! That's right That's Bytes, not bits!

Money wise, it's not much cheaper than Rogers but service wise, you get way more for your money.

I think the only catch is, they don't provide tech support or perhaps charge for tech support but if the problem is network/line related then it's free support and the technician dispatched to check the line is Rogers technician.

I cant say much for VOIP. I'd tried the cheap VOIP services but they're garbage and provide you with inconsistent coverage.
