ok my question:
What are the options to get a high speed internet connection in Pakistan, mainly Lahore and Faisalabad. I will be using it for some months whilst traveling around. Minimum requirement is 1 mb downlink and 256 kb uplink (if possible ) for remote access.

Every Major ISP offer DSL & Cable services minimum starting speed is 512KBPS and its very cheap.
1MB downlink & 512 KBPS uplink cost 1500 a month (that’s what my home have in Faisalabad)
Nearly all of the NET cafe use DSL now, so speed is pretty improve from the last years.
Waridtel & others are also providng Wimax services, … so you can attach a USB-modem to laptop and pretty much half of Pakistan is covered in it. At least every major city.

Wine, that 512 kbps is local to Pakistan, did they ever get additional lines to the outside world? After that incident where the line through the ocean was cut there was tons of discussions of getting redundant lines from other countries.

Pakistan has multiple connections now and working on few more. Google it..

i got 256kb for Rs.400/month in Lahore

That not a case anymore, Pakistan is connected to SEA-ME-WE3 line from last year, actually dual connectivity, each line has capacity of 10GBit/s.
Because of new connection's, bandwidth get cheap and broadband is promoted all over Pakistan.
