High Protien Diet

Everyone talks about a High protien diet and that its really effective. How do I get on it?

Niksik u mentioned in a post that u were on it…can you please share what you did…

Re: High Protien Diet

alishaht, I reduced the quantity of rice, bread and roti I had on a daily basis. For instance, at breakfast, I would have just one toast, and because I do not have high cholesterol, I did eat an egg almost daily, low fat cheese, a breakfast link or a sausage patty...all hi in protein. At lunch, it would be a salad with grilled chicken breast or a salan with just one cup of rice with the starch drained out. Dinner, one chapaati and sabzi, salan, daal whatever. Any extra carbs you eat that don't burn off, get converted to fats and sugar eventually, so if you aren't too much into exercise, a considerable amount of carbs need to bet cut off.

It is very effective. There are diets you can follow. But I just did my own thing.

Re: High Protien Diet

I think women need some fat in there bodies.
That is how nature intended them to be.
Like a little storage for them and for baby.

Re: High Protien Diet

Haha, BobbyZee. Trust me, we have enough!!!

Re: High Protien Diet

lol

Re: High Protien Diet

First of all instead of looking for high protien diet we should be looking for a "balanced diet" thats a perfect combo of carbs, proteins and healthy fats.

and all the calories u take in should come 30% from carb, 30% from protien and 40% from healthy fat.

and fats are very necessary for everyone not just for women, but normally the kinda fat we take in unhealthy fat, like desi ppl eat alot of mutton, in eid season kaleji and stuff, the fat should come from soybeans or banana.

Re: High Protien Diet

Instead of rice go for brown rice or whole grain pasta and use whole wheat bread instead of white bread. Take in your carbs before 6 p.m. After six, cut down, eat veggies and lean meat's.

Re: High Protien Diet

A balanced diet sounds easy, but you cant just wake up one morning and be on a balanced diet, initially inorder to lose weight one has to go on a deit plan or something of that sort. People find protien diets a lot easier than other diets and it really works and the best thing about it is that you lose weight around the belly area which is a "female dog"
but you gotta be very careful cause and follow it correctly and make sure to have as much water as you can LOOOT OF WATER while you're on this diet. Normally after you get done with it (2 weeks) you lose anywhere from 10-18 pounds and your eating habits change dramaticallly!!!

google south beach diet and read the plan. It has a list of things you can eat and all.

things to eat: cheese (doesnt matter if it's low fat or not), eggs, daal, nuts, milk, fish, chicken, beef, vegetables

things to stay away from: bread (white and bran) rice, roti, oil, ghee, coffee, tea, and all that.
the good thing is that you can eat upto 6 times a day and you wont gain any weight.

Hope this helps!!!

Re: High Protien Diet

y can't u drink tea or coffee??that's weird

im not sure if i agree with the statements in red. Protein contains calories, though not as many as one gram of fat does..but saying that you can be on protein diet without gaining any weight is i think inaccurate. The only way you can lose your weight is if you're burning more calories than you're eating. Eating eggs, daal, nuts milk, fish, chicken, beef, vegetables as you said will result in gaining weight ( more of muscle mass than fat ) if you eat 6 small meals of all of these combination for 2 weeks.. but like i said earlier, you can also lose weight as long as you're burning off more calories than you're consuming throughout the day. I'd also like to add to this since we're at losing weight topic.. one can also lose weight by eating healthy fats.

Talking about balance diet and not eating complex carbs or carbs in general doesnt make any sense. Bread, coffee, tea, rice, whole wheat is all good and should be included in a balanced diet.

If the only reason one is trying to be on high protein diet is so that they can lose weight.. well, losing weight has a lot to do with balanced diet and a lot of hard work.. i'm sure no one here wants to lose weight and want to have loose skin or dry or dead kind of skin...

Eat pretty much everything ( except the bad fats ofcourse ) in moderate amount and burn more calories off than you consume on that day.

PS: being on protein diet will not help you lose weight around your belly. Spot reduction isnt possible with either workout or diet.

Frozen fire i liked ur response but just for a kickstart...can't one go on a protein diet...i mean the protein diet can be an encouraging start and u see the results soon..but at the same time excess of everything is bad...so would this much protein increase the uric acid or any other associated health risks would come forward in future?

2ndly how can u burn more calories than u r eating? u need 1200 calories in a day or say if u r too obese 1000 cal? then how many to burn at treadmill if its a beginner at treadmill..i guess if u want ur knees and legs al with u..u should gradually increase the workout time...say for 2 days do brisk walk for 45 mins..then for 50 and increase it to 90mins..wat u say?

i have seen people so trim and slim..just they eat chaaye rusk all day and one meal with half roti at dinner and they r good ..and still lose weight..what u say about them? i think its a good approach to lose weight asap...and then go gradually to maintian it...

Re: High Protien Diet

go to southbeachdiet.com and read for yourself!

your body treats diff types of food differently, how quickly can it convert it to fat and store it, 100 calories fo complex carbs will have a diff impact on you than 1000 calories of simple carbs. That is a fact.

and increasing muscle mass will increase how many calories your body burns even at a resting state.

Re: High Protien Diet

Protein deits work - the minute you start eating carbs you'll start putting on the weight againand fluid retension. So either you incorporate that as a part of your lifestyle and eating habits

Or you do the diet and you lose the weight and then you start with the carbs and you gain the weight again.

Re: High Protien Diet

ok...well i been on this "protein diet" which really sound like a low carb diet. to me ...which for us desi is really hard to keep up with...at least that was my case

i did this diet and have to say lost weight very fast...but gained it even faster...i mean how long can u NOT eat rice and bread...come on...its not realist

i have started a work out diet now and stay on the so called "balance diet"...its slow but its working...i work out 3-5 times a week and n have fruits for breakfast, chicken salad for lunch and desi food for dinner...
i have lost 3 pounds in like 2 weeks...which isn't so bad.

again the above diet will work for sure...but its a quick fix and will go away as soon as u start eating normal food.

I'm not sure what part of my post did you write this post of yours in response to.. but ya, i totally agree with it.. the second statement you make is true as well.. but just being on protein diet will result in gain in weight.. regardless of it being muscle mass or fat...and the poster of this thread I think needs to lose weight.

PS: why just limit your diet when one can eat simple/complex carbs ( im not saying eat crazily ).. and can still lose reasonable weight , given s/he is doing exercise.

The industry of fitness is such that no matter how accurate one gives the opinion and no matter how many times it has worked, it may never work on someone.. what works for me might not work for you..you'd have to figure out how your body works.. what your body's likes and dislikes are and work accordingly. The amount of protein you need depends on a number of factors including your weight and your daily caloric intake. For a kick start protein diet could be good for you .. why?.. because when you'll go workout while on protein diet, your body will break down the fat stored in your body as energy, resulting in weight loss.. it can work though, you can give it a try and post your results here for others to see..( actually I think it'd work.. but you'd gain back weight a lot faster if u stop on high protein diet..) you should only eat the amount of protein per day as you need it.. if you eat excess of it.. it may be hard on your kidneys.. make sure you drink a lot of water throughout the day. When u decide to stop with protein diet.. you should not stop it completely right away.. stop it gradually and ofcourse keep on exercising.

rabia i liked ur approach and i do appreciate it...

frozen i knew too much of anything wud not do any good..so i feel i should stay away from this protein diet...

Re: High Protien Diet

I dont believe in such diets. Just eat in moderation and work out. You dont lose weight that fast but then again with high protien (low/no carb diets) you tend to put on weight faster because of carb craving in your body. Also, eat everything, otherwise the body becomes prone to diseases too, you never know what vitamin or mineral deficiency you might develop with a high protien diet.

Re: High Protien Diet

I looked into the South beach diet as kapracrazy suggested. It sounds somewhat promising as you are supposed to cut back on the breads and the bad carbs for 2 weeks and then u can start adding them back to your routine. It says that you can basicaly have anythng in moderation afterwards. It encourages excersice as well which is great I think. Overall, it’s going to lead to balanced eating habits. The first two weeks just get you motivated when you see the scale shifting.
