High profile trouble-makers

Its not nice to make fun of people when they are down. Still, this news story seems important because it brings forward some interesting questions from a cultural perspective.

Jeb Bush’s daughter arrested

(For those who don’t know, Jeb Bush is the Governor of Florida and the brother of Prez Bush)

Today’s news follows the reported instance a few weeks back when George Bush’s daughter was caught drunk driving and smoking. And it comes right on the heels of Prince Harry and his troubles.

Q1. Since these celebraties are part of the whole cross-section of these cultures, so are the instances of lawlessness amongst the youth increasing? Or are these isolated cases of disturbed individuals with no significant pattern? Is there a cultural shift going on?

Q2. Are such problems more enhanced in western countries or is it that such problems are rarely allowed to become public news by the elite in Eastern countries?

Q3. Why are these previleged kids resorting more and more to lawlessness? They can not claim poverty or ignorance as an excuse. They damn well know what they are doing and how bad it will look? Is it more a case of attention-seeking, rebellion or adventure?

Q4. What are the lessons learned, and how can we, the parents, prevent our kids from following this same destructive path.

i think it is undue attention on celebrity kids. there are so many underage smoking and drinking people. some may be caught too. teenagers make mistakes. it is reverse in US. in india, big man's kids can do anything and get away with it. in US, there is unnecessary focus on them. both are wrong. treat them like everyone else.

zz,---I agree its not a serious problem.Or atleast neither bushs daughter is seriously in trouble except LEGAL & P.R.wise .

There are more serious conditions than few Xanax pill or few cans of beer .
