ok…i tell you people…

this behavior stems from the habbits developed while living in a joint family system…
in those households…where kitchen is common…this behavior is observed…reason being… the main meal is common…but the rest of the stuff fruits, snacks,sweets etc etc are purchased/paid for people themselves out of their personal expenses (and not from the central kitchen expense)…

if these items were left in the open…other ‘families’ /people will eat that stuff in no time…like…it would just disappear…and the person who bought it…wouldn’t get any…

hence the ‘‘hiding’’…
