Passageways such as:
*A perfectly normal staircase could swing up from the bottom, like a garage door opening, to reveal a hidden hallway
*Armchair may be a comfortable place to watch sitcoms, but lift up that cushion and instead of finding crumbs and loose change, you could encounter a slide to a secret room below
*ordinary grandfather clock could slide to the side to expose a hidden passageway
I just remembered , when we bought our current property , it needed loads of work done in it , we focused on the key areas and didnt realize we had a little loft on one of the corners in the outer construction …
How we found it out , was interesting … when the refurbishment was being carried out , one day the alarms went off , we went running to the property and checked , no one inside , the doors and the locks were intact … but some of the stuff was gone .. how, where , we didnt know …
we thought it must have been one of the builders … few days later the same happened again , nothing was stolen but someone tried to get into the property , though all the windows and doors were intact , we didnt know how or what makes the alarm go crazy …
we thought it must be a mouse , whose movement activates the alarm
One day the neighbour , totally drunk, was standing outside , ( his son had an asbo hence bad reputation, though he himself was a lovely guy ) … he muttered to us about the secret door in the secret loft …
Me and hubby didnt pay any attention but one day hubby noticed the loft and he went upstairs and lo and behold , a door !!! that meants the neighbours son was trying to get into the house through that door , which is why the alarm kept going off …
We immediately had that door and the opening secured since that day !!!
CB, that is beyond scary. Good thing the drunk was good for something :D. But I agree that such passageways can be dangerous in-terms of theft and such. But there are some companies which build only on the bases of safety, so only the house owners should know which "book" to pick up to make the shelf into a door.
Gaia , yeah I felt the same , usually we are gaali galoching the drunk neighbour , but that one time his drinking helped us tonns
I was thinking recently , perhaps having a full door isnt the best of idea , but , I have been seriously considering getting a hidden corner, small place kind of a thing to hide important stuff .. like day to day gold , documents, etc …
