This is a call for all help to all GS GTA ladies! I will inshaAllah be getting married in November 2012. I am on the hunt for a videographer and photographer for my baraat. I am on a super tight budget, so my sister and brother-in-law have offered to pay for this expense. I don’t want it to be a financial burden for them as well (they have a large growing family) and I personally don’t see it being necessary to spend thousands of dollars on this expense. I have read some of the previous forums on this topic, but those mentioned are out of my price range. Nowadays everybody and their mother owns a DSLR or has slapped the title of photographer on to themselves. A lot of the times their work is really well done and decent. I am looking for some hidden gems in the GTA that do photography and videography. I know a lot of people have family or friends that have taken up photography and started their own small business’s. I am not looking for anything crazy or out of this world in terms of quality, just some good photo taking/video taking skills. One thing I would prefer is that if it was a 2 person team, preferably a male and female, since it will be segregated. Also if the photographer also does videography as well that would be awesome. If not, I don’t mind getting a separate videographer. I am hoping you all can shed some light on these hidden gems. Plenty of thanks in advance! :slight_smile:

I have worked with Ammara of White Sapphire Photography - she is a hidden gem! She's extremely personable and easy to work with, and she has a great eye for pictures. I'm sure she will offer you a very reasonable price. Definitely get in touch with her!

I would like to stay under $1000, but preferably even much less than that. I know its difficult to find, but I am not asking for a whole lot. Just some good pictures and with a DSLR and some editing skills I feel that is manageable. I will definitely check those links posted. Does this Vijdan Uncle have a website or fb page? I would love it f you could inbox me that info! Thanks a bunch!

Some of my friends have suggested Nida Baig from NBvisual and noorphotography (both have fb pages) Has anybody had any experiences with them? or any of their likes?

Vijdan uncle doesnt do photography or videography anymore. I think he retired from it. But there is also a company called Strokes Photography. They are a husband and wife team. They did the photography for my husbands friends wedding, and they did a good job. They just started last year I believe, so they may be able to work in your price range.

Also, just a suggestion. You can place an ad on Craigslist asking for a photographer and put your price range. You will be surprised at the level of photographers who will reply. Some of them are students of photography, but they have amazing skills. You can ask in the ad that they include a link to their gallery as well. You can also search for photographers on Craigslist.

My sisters and mom were actually suggesting to have a photography student take pictures. Apparently a family friend of a family friend had contacted an arts school looking for intermediate photography students and ended up having a student photograoher for their wedding. From what I've heard their work was great, creative and super affordable. Placing an ad on craigslist is a great way to scope out some photog students and professionals. As long as they have the gallery to backup their claims it sounds like a good route. I will also check out Strokes Photography! I love that they are a husband and wife team. I think I would be more comfortable with a female photographer for my up close and personal solo shots because i wear hijab. That way I can have her photograph me without hijab while i get ready for the shaadi. As well, because the baraat is segregated it would be nice for the ladies side to have a female photographer.
