There is a poll on Duolingo (a language learning site) on which language to be added into their program next. Urdu is one of the options. I am a Pakistani who was raised abroad, and my Urdu is not very good. I always wanted to learn how to write in proper Urdu script and polish my Urdu, but English resources to learn Urdu (as opposed to the more “bigger” languages) are very scarce!
If you could, please vote for Urdu to be added in Duolingo. Here is the poll, and it is open till Monday:

writing Urdu is same like Arabic… if you are able to pronounce word in urdu then write that word in arabic according to its pronunciation same as you write in arabic…! so that word you written in arabic is same as in urdu…!
its same that you can read and write English but not able to write French. but if you can pronounce french word then you can write it in English letters…!
in the beginning you will make mistakes but shore you will learn it…!
i tell you a little story… once upon a time i came across some Pakhtoon children those who can not even speak Urdu but they were able to read it and pronounce it perfectly they even can write it but dont know what that sentence means.. they do it because they have learned Arabic in Madrasah…!
so Urdu is not a big deal…!

that type of jokes are really expected from you peoples… this represent the westren think tank about muslims…! In Urdu i would simply say “Ap ki souch ko salam he..!”

They have Hindi/Urdu together. Makes me wonder how these two languages can be considered same, the script is entirely different, words are different. The “B” and “V” are interchanged as well as “P” and “F”. Urdu people use ‘Taqat’ and Hindi people use ‘Shakti’ for the same meaning in their daily lives. Same goes for ‘acha hai’ and ‘badhiya hai’.
Don’t you think there is a need to make a differentiation between everyday Hindi and what is spoken in bollywood movies?
Yes Urdu is new language and does have words from Hindi but if you cannot read two languages because of their different script, how can they be considered as same?
For me Hindi is what I heard from Doordarshan in my childhood not what I hear from bollywood dialogues and songs.
I want to learn how to write urdu.
