Hi everyone! I need some advice regarding colour

Hi Everyone. I’m new here (well, not new as I’ve been a reader for quite a bit but this is my first time posting) and I need some advice. I quite like this cream/gold/champagne colour and want to wear it for my wedding but have some doubts. A couple of people have told me that cream/champagne doesn’t suit light skinned people as it washes them out and sort of blends into the skin tone. Aside from personal preference, I also chose cream because our wedding will be a daytime wedding and bright colours may look a bit garish since I’m rather light complexioned. A friend of mine has also mentioned that cream and lighter colours in general don’t look very “bridal.”

While looking through pinterest for inspiration, I came across a picture of a look that I think describes the look I’m going for. I’m not referring to the exact outfit the girl is wearing (as the lengha in the picture seems to have a corset top, which I don’t like) but the colour scheme and simplicity of the look while still looking bridal. I’ve added the pictures below, as well as, a picture of myself. Do you guys think this look will suit me?

Re: Hi everyone! I need some advice regarding colour

Hi Meghzan, I too love the whole champagne cream gold thing, and I would love to wear it one day. I do find that they wash me out, and I’m similar in colouring to you, but with darker eyes. I usually balance it by wearing a darker colour close to my face, so maybe a tea-rose pink or wine red dupatta, as a contrast colour? Or, if you want to stick to all one colour, maybe do makeup to complement it? Nargis Fakhri is quite light, and she wore it very nicely in this photoshoot. (sorry about the external link, let me know if they are a no no, and I’ll avoid them next time).

Also, about it not being “Bridal.” I have to disagree. One of the great things about desi brides is we can wear pretty much any colour, what makes it bridal is how fancy it is! Also, if you notice, a lot of designers are doing lighter colours, as more and more brides are asking for them.

Hi Asiya, thanks for the suggestions :)

I quite like your idea of adding a pop of colour with the dupatta, especially tea-rose pink. I also like the idea of doing makeup to complement it, maybe a smokey eye to add some colour to the face?

Re: Hi everyone! I need some advice regarding colour

I think definatly add some color if possible, maybe a colorful purse/dupatta/ flowers. Just remember ur going to be onstage, with alot of lights, ur pictures are going to have alot of lighting as well. So you dont want to be washed out.

Re: Hi everyone! I need some advice regarding colour

^ You're quite right about the lighting. I hadn't really given that much thought (which I probably should since I'm having a daytime, outdoor wedding and natural light sometimes looks harsh in pictures)

Re: Hi everyone! I need some advice regarding colour

I'd say go with deep brown, bronze colours if you choose to do tea-rose in your dupatta and smoke it out. Bronzer and a darker blush might work too. If you can, take like colours to your makeup trial and wear them after you have your makeup on, take pictures in natural and artificial light. Your photographer will look for more than one source of light, and depending on how much you spend on the photographer, they may bring their own light sources/diffusers/flashbulbs

^ Thank you for the great ideas Asiya! Much appreciated :)

I thought white/ivory gowns were the norm for Afghan brides..

(I think you mentioned you were Afghan somewhere)

Re: Hi everyone! I need some advice regarding colour

White/ivory gowns are quite common but I'm not sure I would say it's the norm. The green and gold combination (or even green and red) is also quite popular. Also, alot of brides (at least among people in our area) wear two dresses: a brightly coloured dress for the actual Nikah part and change into a more western style white/ivory gown for the rest of wedding.

Re: Hi everyone! I need some advice regarding colour

I don't think ivory will wash you out. You have a light olive skin tone and it might look nice on you. Or you can do a champagne with hints of other colors.

Re: Hi everyone! I need some advice regarding colour

Yeah, that was what I meant so white or light colours shouldn't be a problem..

I know green is often worn for nikah and then a white gown for the wedding like Arabs and Iranians..

Afghan brides always wear white or ivory, without exception. I don't think I have ever seen an Afghan or Iranian bride in another color. Green is for Nikkah & white/ivory for the reception regardless of the skin color/complexion.

Re: Hi everyone! I need some advice regarding colour

^ That’s interesting. In the area where I live, I’ve noticed a trend of foregoing the white/ivory gown altogether in favour of a coloured gown. I don’t if this is common elsewhere, but I’ve recently attended of couple of weddings where the brides didn’t wear the traditional white/ivory. Their dresses where similar to these:
