**Lebanese group Hezbollah has broadcast a video which it says disproves Israeli claims that it removed munitions from the scene of an explosion on Monday. **The Hezbollah footage suggests the objects in Israel’s spy-plane video were debris from the blast not weapons.
Pending an investigation, it is impossible to verify either claim.
Israel says its film shows violation of a ceasefire deal banning armed activity in the area. Hezbollah says overflights by Israel’s spy-planes are a violation.
The Israeli army released footage taken by one of its pilotless aircraft on Tuesday.
It said the grainy images showed several rockets being removed from the scene of the explosion near the city of Tyre before the arrival of peacekeepers from the UN interim force in Libanon (Unifil).
‘Surprise’ load
The video response shown on Hezbollah’s al-Manar television, shows UN peacekeepers standing around as workers load twisted metal sheets on to a truck .
“Here are soldiers from Unifil and the Lebanese army. The place is empty except for the same truck [as in the Israeli video] and the alleged rocket,” the al-Manar commentary says.
“The surprise is that it is merely an iron garage door… where the explosion occurred.”
After Monday’s blast, which wounded one person, local witnesses said a Hezbollah member had found an unexploded Israeli shell near his home and was trying to dismantle it in his garage when the device blew up.
Unifil and the Lebanese army are carrying out an investigation into the incident.
The Israeli army said the incident “proves again the presence of forbidden weapons in southern Lebanon”.
Under UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah, there should be no weapons south of the Litani river except in the hands of regular Lebanese forces and peacekeepers.
