Hey

i wanted a opinion
should i just finish off 12 and go to an american uni gain credits for doing 12 and join straight into the second year
or
should i do 12 and go to brit uni but do foundation course
or
should i do 12 and 13 and then join brit uni

which option is best from all aspects?

Re: Hey

why not do 12 and 13 and go for a North American Uni - this way you'll get credits for some first year courses. This is what I did... finished my A-Levels and then came to Uni where I got credits for all courses in which I scored an A or a B (some Unis in North America give credits for A-Level courses with a grade of C or better).

This way you'll still get a 4-year U.S. degree in 3 years time... so your future options are open. If you go for a 3-year U.K. degree, then depending on what you wanna do next... you might still have to complete a transitional year in the U.S.

Re: Hey

Umar, 4 yar degree in 3 years is going to be very tough, getting 30 credt hours for A levels is iffy, and this means that you would need 10 A level courses.

I just want to set the expectations right. In most cases if you take your entire freshman year at one uni and then move to another uni, u still may not get all the credits, let alone A levels from Dubai.

Re: Hey

Fraudz… a lot depends on how many G.C.E. A-Level courses one takes… when I did mine waaaay back when, I completed 5 A-Levels which is rather odd since the minimum requirement is 3 and the average is 4 courses.

So I got course credits for 5 full-courses at U of Toronto and Ottawa in Canada and Dartmouth in the U.S. – other friends who opted for U.S. Universities also received credits equivalent to almost one year’s work.

That being said, there certainly may be a maximum no. of transfer credits that Universities can allow for.

Re: Hey

yaaar mullak saaaab thats what I am saying too.
if you get credit for 5 classes thats like one semester.
to get a year’s worth of credit hours, you will need like 10 A levels.

Re: Hey

paa jee... we got 5 full-course credits, not half courses.

Re: Hey

khuda ki panah bhai
an undergrad student does about 30 credit hours in a year.
usally classes are 3 credit hours each, so that means 10 classes.
if u get credit for 5 classes, that is one semester.

Re: Hey

yaara - in Canada, we have half credits and full credits, i.e. courses that run for one semester v.s. courses that run for 2 semesters (1st year Econ / Calculus etc.). For each of my A-Levels in which I had a B or better, I got a full-credit.

if I could find my letter of notificaiton for transfer credits, I'd show it to you... Dartmouth pretty much said the same thing except that they didn't gimme a credit for Urdu since it was listed as my native language on the application form. It's not that hard to believe. It all boils down to the number of years of education - in the U.S. its 12... if you do A-Levels its 13... so you automatically get into 2nd year.

I also have friends who did 13 years of education in Canada and got directly into 2nd year at Uni in the States... albeit the Unis weren't top-tier ones.

Re: Hey

Umar i have seen diff experience, plus i worled in admissios office at two diff unis and n both cases if teh courses were similar they got equated to one course.

diff for diff unis I guess
