Just in case you were wondering (which I doubt) if there would soon be a fourth entry in the* Ice Age* franchise, well, wonder no longer. (Seriously. It’s a strange thing to wonder about.) Details are very light at this early date, but Variety assures us that A) there will one day be a film called Ice Age: Continental Drift – or maybe not because it’s a tentative title; B) it will arrive in theaters on July 13, 2012, so don’t make plans; and C) it will show up wearing that nifty 3-D outfit that everyone seems to love except for me. (Note: I detest 3-D.)
Fox and Blue Sky will no doubt be rolling out the checkbook for series stalwarts Ray Romano, Denis Leary, John Leguizamo, and Queen Latifah – and if you’re wondering why we’re headed for a fourth Ice Age chapter, then read the following sentence. Ice Age](Ice Age (2002) - Movie | Moviefone) (2002) = $383 million worldwide. Ice Age: The Meltdown](Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006) - Movie | Moviefone) (2006) = $655 million. (Yes, really.) Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs](Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009) - Movie | Moviefone) (2009) = $884 million. (Yes, really really, and thanks to BOM for the numbers.)
I knew this series was a worldwide hit, but … wow! Each one makes a lot more money than the one before, and it doesn’t take a super-genius accountant to figure out this formula: make another one, dummy!
