► Heroic Batting Performance in 2nd Innings

I still remember the awesome batting performance of Abdul Razzaq while batting on No. 7 against a very strong SA.
I haven’t remember that any other Pakistani batsman got this type of performance under pressure on this position in ODI’s.

Just sharing the some stats and cricinfo comments …

End of over 49 (11 runs) Pakistan 273/9 (14 runs required from 6 balls, RR: 5.57, RRR: 14.00)
Albie to bowl again. Long-on cow corner, deep midwicket. Off side open. This will be bowled full and on leg stump
49.1
JA Morkel to Abdul Razzaq, no run, and he hits the crease, down the leg side, cramping him up, going through his legs
49.2
JA Morkel to Abdul Razzaq, SIX, smokinnnn! Razzaq on 99! What is he up to here? Low full toss, misses the length by inches, and smacks it over midwicket, into the grass banks. They are dancing out there. Razzaq is playing a beauty
49.3
JA Morkel to Abdul Razzaq, SIX, Razzaq! Beaut! Poor delivery. On a length, in Razzaq’s arc. He gets under it, goes over midwicket. Gets to 105. Botha is on the rope. Watches it sail over his head. Shine On You Crazy Diamond
49.4
JA Morkel to Abdul Razzaq, no run, short and wide, Razzaq wants to finish it off, misses the cut. AB and Albie appeal big time, but I don’t see any connection there
49.5
JA Morkel to Abdul Razzaq,
FOUR,
Abdul. Razzaq. Sir, you have played a gem! Full ball outside off, when the leg side is heavily populated, and he crashes it through the field. Four runs! Game over. He emotes for the first time. Exults. He throws his bat, and then pumps fists. looks towards the dressing room. They are all celebrating. Shoaib picks up his bat. Hugs him. One by one all come out. Afridi. Waqar. All have one man to thank tonight
More reactions.

Vishal: “Pakistan cricket was reeling…They needed a miracle to survive…and here they have it…One of the greatest ODI innings you will ever see or read in our case…This is a kind of innings that would make a nation believe in themselves…Best of luck from across the border…”

Lee de Souza: “About time we saw Razzaq again showing us what he’s capable of! What-an-innings. I hope his top order counterparts were paying attention!”

Maryam: “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. POST MY COMMENT. I AM SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO HAPPY. completely worth staying up at night for. when ab de villiers thought razzaq was out i felt my whole world shattering. BUT ABDUL RAZZAQ IS TOO AWESOME. The world needs to know of my joy.”
Joy to the world. On that note, we bid farewell to what was Abdul Razzaq’s night. The man scored 63 of the last 65 runs. He didn’t wear any costumes, he didn’t perform fancy tricks, but on Halloween Night, he left the bowlers scared, very scared. Do join us for the rest of the series. And also don’t forget to read Osman Samiuddin’s bulletin. It will be up soon. Give him some time. Razzaq didn’t give him any. And, that is that. Okay bye

re: ► Heroic Batting Performance in 2nd Innings

While searching the record on cricinfo I got this amazing match as well  I don’t know the exact match situation but scorecard and wisdon almanack report telling the situation.

Second One-day International

         **INDIA v PAKISTAN 1986-87**

At Calcutta, February 18. Pakistan won by two wickets. A splendid 72 off 35 balls by Salim Malik brought Pakistan a remarkable victory before a crowd of 90,000-plus at the first one-day international at Eden Gardens. The match was seemingly in India's grasp after Srikkanth's 123 (one six, fourteen fours) and partnership of 145 for the fourth wicket with Azharuddin. Younis Ahmed, playing in his first one-day international in his 40th year, shared a century opening stand with Ramiz Raja, but in forcing the pace Pakistan slumped to 161 for five. Coming in when 78 runs were needed at more than 10 an over, Malik produced some amazing shots and hit a six and eleven fours as he turned the tables. Maninder, who played despite an injury, went for 70 runs in his ten overs.

Man of the Match: Salim Malik.

re: ► Heroic Batting Performance in 2nd Innings

The best 2nd inning chase was India chasing down ~ 420 runs against Windies circa 1976. Gundappa Vishwanath 100. Amarnath also hundred I think.

re: ► Heroic Batting Performance in 2nd Innings

^ in widnies against the fearsome pacers of that era.

re: ► Heroic Batting Performance in 2nd Innings

I’m only talking about the Pakistani Team in ODI’s. :smack2:
I know there must be many many innings across world in test cricket :cobra:
You can give your views on Pakistani matches :hat:

re: ► Heroic Batting Performance in 2nd Innings

Its okay :cobra:
Have you watched the match of my post # 2 ?

re: ► Heroic Batting Performance in 2nd Innings

No - I had stopped watching cricket then. Strange to see Miandad, Akram and Mudassar Nazar in same game. I thought Akram was much younger. And what was the opener Mudassar doing soming so low down the order? Was he injured and so came late?

re: ► Heroic Batting Performance in 2nd Innings

I really don’t know so curious to know. I think due to 40 overs :hmmm:

re: ► Heroic Batting Performance in 2nd Innings

Yesterday’s performance by India against SL, and Kohli’s batting has to count right up there :k:

re: ► Heroic Batting Performance in 2nd Innings

Sannan, there was one match in which Ijaz Ahmad similarly crushed Indian bowling I believe, I'll try to find that game and post the link.

re: ► Heroic Batting Performance in 2nd Innings

R u talking about the match when ijaz and afridi completed target of 220 or something in 26 odd overs

re: ► Heroic Batting Performance in 2nd Innings

Sorry dude i’m talking about lower order batting of Pakistan only. :cobra:

yes that was awesome but I was talking about lower order batting on No. 7 and in such a pressure.

re: ► Heroic Batting Performance in 2nd Innings

Isn't it ironic that I remember Salim Malik's innings very well but have no recollection of Abdur Razzaq's gem.

re: ► Heroic Batting Performance in 2nd Innings

The best Indian chase was in 1975 World Cup when England set them a target of 335 to win in 60 overs. India scored 132/3 in their 60 overs. Gavaskar opened the innings and was 36 not-out at the end.

re: ► Heroic Batting Performance in 2nd Innings

re: ► Heroic Batting Performance in 2nd Innings

While these performances are remarkable and extraordinary... our team direly needs a batting overhaul and stop relying on something outstanding to happen... whether its Razzaq or Afridi or anyone else for that matter - there needs to be some support from other batsmen.

Where the team has really failed is the top order... you can't expect a Razzler like performance every day from someone or an Inzimam like finisher either.
