Heroes from your own Land

Re: Heroes from your own Land

There was no entity by the name of Balochistan till 50’s. Yes state of kalat was there and they did fight valiantly against the Brits.

Re: Heroes from your own Land

so how was the area other than Qallat was referred then?

Re: Heroes from your own Land

good question! :k: it was called british balochistan (but those are the pashtun areas of current Balochistan) and were under their direct control.

Re: Heroes from your own Land

lols. East India company mentioning conquest dates as acquisition. typical accountants :D

Re: Heroes from your own Land

yeah, caught my attention too for a while :D

Re: Heroes from your own Land

but they didn’t mention when they acquired british Balochistan :hmmm:

Re: Heroes from your own Land

It would have been after Punjab and Sindh, as we see they were expanding northwards and then towards east and west.

Re: Heroes from your own Land

and their efforts continued till 1930s , as we see in a post above about Palay Khan

Re: Heroes from your own Land

Several heroes from 1857 war, khan bahadur khan rohilla, bakht khan rohilla, jansi ki raani, mangal pandey etc.........

Baghat singh from punjab

But remember one man's hero is another man's villain. Take the example of majadad alf sani, a hanafi muslim, who went against akbar's new religion and prevented mutation of islam in subcontinent, most of muslims have great respect for him...... but also there are people like muqawee who do not like him

Re: Heroes from your own Land

@Ali syed, sher shah was born in bihar, launched himself from bihar and is buried there. As sher shah suri is not local according to muqawee, and is rapist and plunderer in his eyes. So I would like to mention khushal khan khattak as local hero, a warrior poet who tried to create national solidarity among afghans and free them from mughal rule.

Re: Heroes from your own Land

where did I call Suri a rapist? :hmmm: Aren’t you reading too much in between the lines?

I mentioned controversial character of Mujaddad and specifically mentioned that he may be hero for certain quarters, but not for masses as a whole.

Re: Heroes from your own Land

Ekalavya
Karna
Vikarna
Yuyutsu
Kumbhakarna - when he was awake.

All heroes.

Re: Heroes from your own Land

from Pandav side or kaurav side?

Re: Heroes from your own Land

Again my source is Wikipedia but Suri was born in Haryana, which used to be part of undivided Punjab.

Re: Heroes from your own Land

Haryana or Bihaar, Suri was a local and deserved to be called a hero for his contribution towards society in short span of his rule.

Same goes true for Khushaal Khan Khattak. Though, Iqbal has not sung local heroes, but one of his poem is dedicated to Khushal Khan Khatak.

Allama Iqbal Poetry

Re: Heroes from your own Land

There isn't anyone from Panda side. First four Mahabharat era. Last Ramayan

ekalavya low caste learnt archery on his own with Drona image in front. Gave up his right thumb cause dronas favorite disciple Arjun asked Drona to get that as guru dakshina.

karna stuck with his friend duryodhan and fought his brother s pandavs.

Vikarna was a kaurav who knew duryodhan was wrong. But gave up his life since it was his duty.

yuyutsu was the 10 1st kaurav born off low caste woman. He stayed away from battle. He and Vikarna were only ones to criticize duryodhan.

Kumbhakarna was ravanas younger brother. He was not afraid to criticize ravana. But fought knowing he will die at the hands of Rama.

Re: Heroes from your own Land

Interesting. What about heroes post Mahabharata and Ramayan era?

Re: Heroes from your own Land

Double Sri Ravi Shankar is certainly an anti hero.

Re: Heroes from your own Land

Certainly. I rate Suri higher than the Moghul rule, despite his short tenure.

Re: Heroes from your own Land

Muslim settlers who came from outside will have the ‘local’ heroes who came from outside; not to loot, plunder and rape; but to impart education and knowledge of religion.

In that case we have Qazi Nurullah Shustari. He came from Iran and was Akbar’s Chief Justice. So he lived in Agra, and Agra was adjacent to the state of Bharatpur where our family lived which had come to India from Hejaz through Iran and Afghanistan.

Qazi Nurullah Shustari is called ‘Shaheed e Saalis’. He was murdered during Jehangir’s times because of his Shia faith, despite the fact that he made every ruling based on everyone’s own fiqh.
He was a scholar who wrote several books. His mausoleum is in Agra.
