How many heroes you know that purely belonged to your own land and didn’t come from outside to invade, loot, rape and finally get the status of hero for your next generations.
Re: Heroes from your own Land
btw, so called locally produced leaders have been equally plundering, raping and looting the country since after the independence. comparatively speaking, some were honest.
this guy was quite nice and honest to the people he represented:
Chhunnan Guru of Allahabad**.**
He was Indian Prime Minister Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri’s buddy. no wonder why he was an honest person.
**
Chhunnan Guru kii kia pahchaan?
haath meN DanDaa, muNh meN paan!** ![]()
this guy provided justice to poor people with a DanDaa in his iron fist. he was a popular and loved local leader.
this is his statue which adorns the base of the ghanTaa ghar [clock tower] in the city’s Chowk [downtown core].

Re: Heroes from your own Land
we are talking about larger than life heroes, who got titles of 'rehmatullah aleh' after all the loot, rape, cruelties.
I do agree that after independence, there are hardly any leaders who can be termed heroes of our nation.

Re: Heroes from your own Land
No such hero from Punjab.
Re: Heroes from your own Land
Mujaddad alf saani counts?
Re: Heroes from your own Land
Are you sure? No local heroes or known local heroes are two different aspects.
Heroes don't need to be the winners. Efforts also count :)

Contributions?
Why not Porus?

Yes Porus is one. Id even put ranjeet Singh in that category, but if I say this aloud in even my family I am sure id be lynched. ;) I don't know much about mujaddad but when Akbar was promoting his deen I illahi mujaddad was there to refute his fallacies.

You know the history taught to us. Only Muslims are heroes, as per that no punjabis that I can see upto 1985 (Nawaz sharif). Oh well should we consider him punjabi or Kashmiri. :)
I'll open up a thread soon a to how areas of Punjab have always been kpk and Kabul. It's hard being ruled over and over.

Do you know, who was behind Akbar's Deen e Ilahi?
Hint: A famous sufi of Punjab, who was basically a Sindhi from Sehwan Sharif and he is equally revered by Sikhs :)
Mujaddad's role is quite controversial as per historians like Mubarak Ali and Sibt e Hasan.

Please expand on that sufi, and also the controversial aspects of mujaddad. I have not read about him therefore it'd be good.
Re: Heroes from your own Land
Another interesting aspect I see is the case of sher shah suri. Some nationalists bring up his ethnicity, do you know he was born in Punjab? They consider past rulers as one of their own but the people sharing their ethnicities today and living in Punjab today are punjabis. :)
Re: Heroes from your own Land
Miyan Mir of Lahore was from Sehwan Sharif. He remained murshid of three Mughal emperors from Jehangir to Aurangzeb. Dara Shikoh wrote his biography in Persian and Aurangzeb built his tomb ![]()
Actually Deen i Ilahi’s promoters and Akbar’s nau-ratans were followers of Mahdawi Movement that was lead by Mehdi Jaunpuri and has strong hold in lower Sindh.
For Mujaddad’s controversial aspects , you can refer to this thread:

Re: Heroes from your own Land
^^^ Miyan Mir was friend of Fifth Sikh Guru, Arjan Dev. He laid the founding stone of Golden Temple :)
Re: Heroes from your own Land
^ miyan Mir seems to be a famous guy, there is a qabaristan by his name. Didnt know his history though... :p
Re: Heroes from your own Land
Sikhs seem to be very happy with this Mian Mir chap... :)
Re: Heroes from your own Land
Mujaddad alf sani was in a different period altogether, on the one side Akbar was propagating a religion which could have replaced Islam altogether. He seems to be a reaction, complete opposite to Akbar...

And also with other sufis like Baba Farid, Bulleshah, Kabir. Secondly who won't be happy in the company of Sufis unless he/she is the hardliner :)

Akbar's deen e ilahi was an elite step and it doesn't have roots in masses, but the letters of Sirhindi called for total action against non-Muslim minorities. On this note, he may considered as hero of a particular quarter of Muslims, but not masses as a whole.
