In 2002 Mukhtaran Bibi, a 30-year old Pakistani, was gand-raped as punishment after her brother was accused of fraternizing with a woman from a rival tribe. An international outcry went up when it was revealed that Bibi’s village council had approved the attack, later a higher court sent her rapists to jail and awarded her $8,300.00. Bibi, who never got an education, used the money to start two schools in her village. “We must improve the minds of boys and girls if we’re to improve women’s rights,” she told reporters.

Yes, she must be declared a national hero and there must be a national holiday on her birth date. What happened with Mukhtaran must be condemned and rules must be made harsh to stop such incidents in future, which were done to some extent at every level. As for the money, Courts and Governments don't provide money to such victims any where. The victims have to put a case against other party to claim that.
We have enough heroes to adore, who spent their lives and put their best efforts for this country, and they are selected on a well defined criteria. As for Role Model, Mukhtaran is already one. When ever some one will arite about women in Pakistan, Mukhtaran must be in that list.
