Muslims who are skeptical about the U.S.’ presence in Iraq likely aren’t going to be happy about this. The Southern Baptist Convention, an “an ardent supporter of the war as an opportunity to bring Christianity to the Middle East” is ready to send 25,000 “trained evangelists” into Iraq.
Bush became a born-again Christian with the assistance of Billy Graham, the founder of the SBC. Graham’s son Franklin, who delivered the invocation at Bush’s 2001 inauguration and runs the SBC, apparently has repeatedly described Islam as “wicked”.
What a colossal diplomatic mistake it would be if the U.S. allows this to happen. Supreme ignorance. Sad thing is this will be overlooked, and merged into their “freedom” excuse, in this case freedom of religion.
The Baptists will deliver thousands of 70-lb. food packages labeled—in Arabic— with the biblical verse John 1:17: “For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.”
Oh, and apparently a former president of the Southern Baptist Convention called the prophet Mohammed a “demon-possessed pedophile.” >:(
According to a poll released last week by the Ethics & Public Policy Center and Beliefnet, a religion Web site, 70 percent of evangelical leaders consider Islam “a religion of violence” and 81 percent believe it is “very important” to convert Muslims abroad.
Thousands of marines have been given a pamphlet called “A Christian’s Duty,” a mini prayer book which includes a tear-out section to be mailed to the White House pledging the soldier who sends it in has been praying for Bush.
