Re: ‘Henvaanaa’…do you know what it is?
You are thinking Watermelon. ![]()
In Punjabi, I have heard dvaanRa or hadvaanRa.
Tarbooz for us Urdu speakers. ![]()
If you are not thinking of Watermelon, you are probably talking about the miracle medicinal plant, Moringa (Svanjhnaa in Hindustani).

In Punjab, only Dhawna and Handwana, from where you add R ![]()
Re: 'Henvaanaa'...do you know what it is?
It's the hard N and R mix sound. :)
Re: 'Henvaanaa'...do you know what it is?
yeah, hinvana or henvaanaa is another name for tarbooz [watermelon]. it's a Hindi word for tarbooz.

I always thought it to be a punjabi word. At least in Pakistan it is.

it is probably borrowed from Hindi because in our area, where Punjabi is not one of the languages spoken, the rural folks [me included] call it Henvaanaa while city folks call it tarbooz.
