Hen's Party!

Hello All,

How many of you had a hen’s party? Or for those who are yet to be married, do you plan on having one? If so, how do you envisage it to be?

Any ideas you can suggest for activites?

Thanks!

Re: Hen's Party!

Forgive my ignorance...but what is a Hen's Party?

Do you mean a hen party? Not a hens party because I'm pretty certain that people don't party with poultry? Forgive me if I'm wrong LOL

Re: Hen's Party!

no way!! .. okay maybe it's just an Aussie concept/slang..

I think in the US/UK etc, it's probably known as a 'bridal shower'

Re: Hen's Party!

Bridal shower or bachelorette party?

Re: Hen's Party!

Probably a bachelorette party would suit it better.

Is it not common in US/UK/Canada? etc?

Re: Hen's Party!

Just came home from mine actually!

Doing two -

One co-ed board game and cake night (played Taboo, Jenga, Dixit and Boggle) - was a blast!

One more traditional girls' dinner, which is yet to come :) I think they are going to do some kind of craft thing, listen to music, make me guess his answers to funny questions they asked, like "would he squeeze the toothpaste from the bottom or the middle of the tube?" and see whether I guess right, etc. You can find good ideas for these types of activities online if you like.

Enjoy!

Re: Hen's Party!

Most desi girls I know just have a bridal shower, because bachelorette parties tend to be more "racy".

While I do plan on having a bridal shower, I don't plan on having a bachelorette PARTY because around here they tend to consist of getting glammed up and going clubbing. I would, however, like to do a bachelorette TRIP. One of my friends is having a bachelorette weekend trip to a nearby major city...I'd like to do something along those lines as well. Just getting away with some girlfriends, having fun, getting pampered, shopping, exploring, etc.

Re: Hen's Party!

It's pretty common, I guess it just depends on what circles you are in. The more conservative/modest/traditional circles usually don't have one - they just have a bridal shower. However I do know of other circles that do wild bachelorettes.

Re: Hen’s Party!

Never heard the term “hen party” before. But I looked it up and it’s another word for a bachelorette party.

Alls you need is a male stripper dressed as a rooster. (feathers can be kinky!)
Oh and maybe some deviled eggs and chicken wings as appetizers.

:hehe:

I’m more familiar with bridal showers…with the “raciest” thing about them being the gifts from Victoria’s Secret. :stuck_out_tongue: I vagueley remember one I attended where the bride opened gifts…and then I think there was a game played (not too sure)…and then pizza was ordered. It was fairly simple. But you can have games, lil favors for the guests, movies, etc.

Or you can even arrange for a bridal shower more…outdoors. Maybe you and your closest girlfriends can have lunch at a nice restaurant…and from there go to a spa to get pampered…and from there you can go to the theater to watch a movie. Sort of like a Girls’ Day out.

Re: Hen's Party!

Okay I get it now.

I didn't want one...my friends tried to throw me one but I said NOOOOOOO. There were enough dholkis, mehndis, mayuns, etc going on. I didn't want another crowd.

So what we did is go out to a restaurant I had been wanting to try for agesssssssssssss...did all of my favorite things and just enjoyed being with my bestest buddies.

I loved it.

Re: Hen's Party!

Phew ! so the concept isn't an out of this world foregin concept..

Okay that description of getting all dolled up and going clubbing is defintely not what I was thinking. I don't come from a complete mod family, just normal, and yeah it's just a fun thing to do with your friends..

Similar to what someone else was saying

  • weekend get away trip with the girls
  • shopping, getting pampered and being with your friends

Might even throw in some water activites!!

I like that game ' guess what he would do ' :)

Re: Hen's Party!

Its called a "hen party" in the UK - but that doesn't mean it's limited to a party or clubbing.

I had 2, the first was with my cousin, and close friends, we went to a spa, then for lunch.

The second was with work colleagues, we went for a meal and they got me some silly gifts.

Re: Hen's Party!

I think i might just go for dinner with close family and friends. Girls only. But then I don't know how many that should be...hmm

Re: Hen's Party!

My best friend had a bridal shower and a hen party. A bridal shower is when your friends 'shower' you with presents to congratulate you. You can make it informal by having a small party at home with friends and family, which is what normally happens (and what we did for my best friend)

The hen party happens closer to the wedding day, like a last night out as a single girl sort of thing, can be all sorts of stuff. Most of us tend to have a dinner, although you can jazz it up with bellydancing lessons, karaoke, shisha evenings or whatever!
Its fun to have games too, and a theme (like for us, we had a colour theme where the bride wore red, and we all wore black with red accessories and shoes), but you can have other themes, like fancy dress, arab styles, just dressing up glamourously etc etc

It's really up to you how big or small you want to make it really

Re: Hen's Party!

My cousin got married in september, and one of our friends hosted a bridal shower/hens night - but she was from a different state in Aus, where they usually call it a 'kitchen tea' (just to complicate it a little more)

basically we did some fun little games with everyone, including the aunties. It was actually really cute, and loads of fun.
One was done in pairs, with a little tray of 6 different 'mystery spices' and you had to guess what each one was. There was also one where there were various different pics of the bride to be and you had to work out how old she was in each pic etc.

and then later on the girls just hung out together. we had dinner, watched movies and had a bit of a dance party just at home!
we don't live in a huge city so there's only limited things to do - and our families although social, are generally pretty low key. It was more about spending the time with the bride to be, as she was about to move to a different state.

Re: Hen's Party!

:D

Re: Hen's Party!

basically u mean hen night, which in western cultures TRADITIONALLY involves, boozing, clubbing, more boozing, strippers etc etc etc but mostly alcohol

so....no is the answer..... :D i think bridal showers are slowly creeping into asian weddings too, a little more sophisticated i guess.....either way not my cup of tea!

if i wana enjoy some time with close friends or family before the wedding be it brunch with the girls or a spa day with the cousins, i dont really put a 'label' on the day....neway to each their own :D
