hey guys, I’m not sure if there’s already been a thread on this topic anyhow…
Basically over the past couple of weeks my skin has been really bad, keep having a breakout of spots! The worst thing is that I’m really bad and can’t resist squeezing them, resulting in loads of acne marks. I manage to cover them up with makeup/foundation but I know that if anything this will make it worse. I have visited the Dr Who has prescribed me some antibiotics but it’s been over a month I’ve been on these and they’ve made no difference its really making me feel down as my skin has never been so bad… So please if anyone could recommend anything to stop me from breaking out and the scars! I’ve tried facials, over the counter creams, etc but nothing seems to be working!
I have read about these glycolic peels but I’m a bit reluctant to try this incase it makes my skin worse or would any one recommend to try a peel? I’m only 21 so don’t want to damage my skin either plz help…
Is your skin super oily? And by acne marks, they're not pitted right? Just dark brown spots (hyperpigmentation)?
What over the counter creams have you tried? Are you currently taking any prescription meds from a derm?
My skin is just oily in the T zone, rest is actually quite dry! Yeah and it's basically brown marks from the spots, just bought some stuff from boots and superdrug like face washes etc that are designed for acne but nothing has worked.
So plz if I could recommend anything that would be great... What about a chemical peel?
You need to get Retin A. Get your doctor to prescribe it. Otherwise you can also buy it at AllDayChemist.com which will probably be cheaper anyway. If your doctor prescribes it, then follow his directions. If you buy it on your own....then get the .025% cream. Start by using it at night 2x/week over the entire face. In the beginning you'll experience some dryness/light flakiness while the skin gets used to it. If the skin is super dry/irritated/itchy etc......then 1 HOUR after applying RA, apply a moisturizer (I personally use Argan Oil). But if the skin seems to handle it well, then after the 1st week, increase usage to 3x/week.
Use the RA at least for a month and allow your skin to get used to it. After a month, I'd say you should look for a over the counter cream with glycolic acid in it. I have personally used and loved Alpha Hydroxy Glycolic Soufflee (12%) but thre are others out there. At this point I would alternate between the glycolic cream and RA (every other night). If the skin seems extra dry/irritated/flaky etc....that means it's too strong. In this case, adjust usage (ie. space out the creams every 2 night etc). You'll need to play with the "schedule" to find what works best for you.
Once your acne is under control and starts to prove.....THEN you should consider doing Lactic Peels. This is the best option for hyperpigmentation specifically. I buy mine at MUAC but you can look at other online retailers too. Please make sure they have good reviews. Start at 40%. Do this every 2 weeks. If you do a search, there are TONS of threads on chemical peels here that will give you detailed instructions/precautionary measures.
3 points:
1) I can not tell you how important it is that you use a GOOD sunscreen diligently if you're going to be using Retin A and other acids. Without sunscreen, your skin is super sensitive and at high risk for hyperpigmentation (ie. more brown spots!) due to the RA and AHA (ie. glycolic/lactic acid) usage.
2) I broke down a schedule for the 3 products b/c I'm not a big fan of introducing multiple products on the skin at one time. If you space out the introduction 3-4 weeks......then IF you skin is allergic or gets super irritated for some reason, you know exactly which product caused it immediately.
3) If you're going to be using RA and other acids....then get a cleansar that's super gentle like Cetaphil. Don't get too many other products with other acids in it.
Excpt peel process wt r other cream to combat the discolouration . Using purin acne face wash as i hv acne breakouts. Using sunscreen. But wt moisturizer or mask i use for it?

Any idea where we can get this from [in Islamabad/Rawalpindi]? Someone recommended the same to me in another thread and I might add that to the list of experiments with my skin ;)
