Helping kids to excel their talents

Our older one (8 yrs old) is an excellent writer. She writes great stories. They are full of imaginations and very easy to read. I am thinking about getting them published but I have no idea where to start from.

are there any tips or testimonies of how you help/helped your kid in their talent. Like if they paint, did you submit their work in an exhibition?

Re: Helping kids to excel their talents

I used to write as a child and my parents used to send my poems and stories to creative writing competitions and got them published when i was between 9-13.

I think they found alot of these competitions online and also the there is a young writers book published every year in the UK which 2 of my poems got into (yay!) which the school submitted our work to.

Im sure the US has a young writers award or maybe your state does so google that and I know for a fact there are lots of creating writing competitions where you can submit your work online.

Re: Helping kids to excel their talents

I helped my kid but grounding him for writing stories , I wanted him to be a doctor. Just kidding.
There are some websites which allow you to publish your stories online , some of them go to printing press to ultimately.
Do a google search for publish your story and you would be amazed. I have no personal experience.

Thanks for great suggestions Inspiron :k:

Re: Helping kids to excel their talents

My dad use to submit my poems and writing to the local newspaper. Why not let her write online or take her writing and put them in a book for her so she can see them as she gets older.

Re: Helping kids to excel their talents

I want to submit her stuff in a publication rather than online. Let me see what I can find here locally.

Re: Helping kids to excel their talents

local newspaper is a great idea.

Let her write online means having her own blog (not Gs but other personal blog sites) or what?

Re: Helping kids to excel their talents

Niksik the stuff I meant was you can submit online rather than posting and the best work gets published in a book...thats what happened when i was a child anyway

Re: Helping kids to excel their talents

Acha OK. :smack: I don’t mind online stuff waisey…but I love holding a publication in my hand and reading it.

Re: Helping kids to excel their talents

awesome..

let me go through it. Thanks inspiron

Re: Helping kids to excel their talents

All the publishers have websites where you can submit her work.

Re: Helping kids to excel their talents

No not GS - There are kid appropriate reading and writing online sites. Google Razz kids (reading), kids writing, story makers for kids. Also check you local library - they usually put a kids newsletter on a monthly basis. Also have critique classes.

Re: Helping kids to excel their talents

Found this website too!

i](http://www.artandwriting.org/)m all for kids writing, its so much fun!!!

Re: Helping kids to excel their talents

I personally dont want to start with publisher website because if the work gets rejected, she will feel discouraged. I would rather pick a source which may not be as glamarous but what makes her feel encouraged to write more.

I will definetly check my local library.

Inspiron is on a roll  Thanks lady. :k:
