Why can I not hear a single audio file in here? It says click to get the plugin, but when I do, it takes me to the download page of windows player, I already have the latest windows player version.

Try to associate the mp3 type files to some other player that you have. Maybe winamp?
Go to My computer, click on tools, folder options, file types tab, go down the list and find mp3. Select mp3 and click on "Change" in that window. Then select any other player that you have and apply the settings.
