Im miserable, and I think I will send a very long PM to Faisal and complain about my flu.:o
On a serious note, I hate taking all kinds of meds for the common cold/flu.Do you guys have any desi/homemade remedies I could try? Nothing yucky please.
okee, ive done a quick search...and what i find is that Vit C does not prevent common cold...however there are indications that using (large) dosis of Vit C may shorten the course of the disease and makes one feel better
Chai dehydrates you. So if someone tells you to drink fluids, and you drink chai, you actually reduce the amount of fluid in your body. It's the effect of the caffeine in chai (which is more than in coffee, and which is a dehydrating agent)
It's a particularly bad problem in the UK, where the elderly seem to drink almost nothing but chai.
A doctor friend of mine once advised a patient that she needed to drink 8 glasses of water a day in the day - to his annoyance she took 8 cups of chai per day instead.
maddy--- you should have told me all this before.Ok no chai for me.But you know its so soothing esp when Im not feeling well.I find it hard to drink water, so I mix some cranberry juice in it.Hope thats ok?
Nes-- I dont like orange juice that much to start with, so large doses are out of the question.(So are Vitamin pills)
Sahar thank you.(Iv also gotten started on the chicken soup.)The only thing is I dont like ginger in tea.I know, I know, Im an impossible patient.Moms not here, so nobody to take care of me.
Maddy–Apparently the brain gets dehydrated if there isnt enough water in the body, so your losing your concentration makes sense.I should start drinking more water. You better cut down on the coffee.:o I rarely ,(and by that I mean like once a year) drink coffee.
well, my kids used to get flu quite often ...almost 9-10 months an year (u know summer comes for a really short period here )
this time i started giving them luke warm water with honey in it every morning before breakfast (its mentioned in Tibb-e-Nabwee (peace be upon him))
the eldest takes it regularly ...n the younger two refuse everytime ....n see ...the eldest is perfect mashaAllah ...while the bewaqoof younger is coughing n sneezing!
anyway ....i always treat them with honey+ black pepper .....or green tea with ginger n cinnamon in it .......then chicken corn soup or may be simplest of all chicken broth with salt n pepper
