Re: Help with wii game - guitar hero or rock band?
MamaOf3, i will tell you how i know it is in the UK
For the Wii, the main musical rhythm games you can buy are Rock Band and the Guitar Hero Series.
RockBand
You have to buy the actual software CD and equipment separately. The (current) game costs around £25 and the 'Band in a Box' costs around £80. This consistes of the following equipment:
- Fender Stratocaster Guitar Controller.
- Drum Kit Controller.
- Microphone.
You can buy these peripherals separately, but it'll end up costing you more..
Guitar Hero
This is a whole series of games. The one you probably want is Guitar Hero On Tour, which allows you to connect guitars, microphones and drums; the others in the series only allow for guitars to be connected. For £150 you get the whole shebang and if you buy them together like this, it works out cheaper. You get:
- Guitar Hero World Tour Software CD
- Wireless Guitar Controller
- Wireless Drum Kit
- Wired Microphone
When I went into GAME (UK games-store) to buy it, I was pleasantly surprised to find out the if you buy the whole set, you get a free les paul guitar controller, so if you opt for this, definitely shop around to check for offers..!!
So which one to buy?
Welll, i have both, and i like them both... it's a really good game for the hubby and kids as well ;) and each has it's pros and cons... i would argue about the songlist on each but i don't think your sons really care... they just want to strum and bash some skins i think! :D
If you're opting for Rock Band, then get the Rock Band 2 software CD instead of Rock Band 1. Rock Band 1 was something of a let down on the Wii, due to certain major features being missing (downloadable content and online play) when compared to the X360 and PS3 versions, however Rock Band 2 promises both of these for the Wii. In addition, the drum kit for Guitar Hero World Tour, the cymbals, while looking cool, are not that responsive and need to be hit right on the centre, rather than at the edges, which detracts from the realism somewhat... and your kids may find it difficult to aim this precisely.
One final point: Rock Band + software = saves you considerably more, when compared to Guitar Hero.... but again it might be different stateside... if your sons have no idea about rock (which at their age i don't think they will), then just opt for the cheapest option you find between the 2 games ;)
Hope that helps! :)
