I have an aunt and several cousins named that and from what I hear, it has Persian origin but I'm not too sure. Let me Google something for you.

Re: help with the name "Natasha"

Hey I was wondering about the name Natasha too just the other day, I know of a couple of Pakistani girls with that name and was wondering why is this name common among Pakistanis, but not like random other western names like Jessica or Stephanie etc. I thought it might have some Persian connection perhaps, but when I looked it up, its Russian, and it means something like born on Christmas. The only Muslim girls with that name that Ive met are Pakistani, never seen any Arab or any other Muslim nationality with that name, not sure why Pakistanis would pick it???

Re: help with the name “Natasha”

this is where i found the name …

Alphabet N- Muslim Girl Names- Islamic baby Girl names. Arabic and Muslim female names.

i just wanna make sure that it really is Islamic and that the meaning listed here is accurate.

Re: help with the name "Natasha"

I personally believe the origin of the name doesn't make it Islamic or inislamic. It can be Italian, Russian or Arabic. Its the meaning that makes it so. I am not sure about the meaning to Natasha but I know the origin is Russian.

Just check if the meaning doesn't come into conflict with any concepts of Islam, go for it.

Re: help with the name "Natasha"

Exactly, I mean Arab Christians refer to God as Allah too^^
So it's a matter or meaning, not language.

Re: help with the name "Natasha"

i found the meaning "Christ's birthday" for Natasha

Re: help with the name "Natasha"

No, we checked with an aalim. It is not a "muslim" name as such as it means Christ's birthday as noted above, and because muslims do believe in Isa (Alahisalam) they don't establish a birthday for him as such. So while it isn't a sin to keep that name, it may not be advisable if you are looking for something truly Islamic.

Re: help with the name "Natasha"

What EXACTLY is an "Islamic" name? A name's a name.

Would've been a good name for Enaya, since she was born 7:42pm on 12/24/09!

It should have a good meaning. Or be named for a righteous person, like a Prophet, or companion etc. It is one of the rights of the child in Islam, that their parents give them a good name. Your name can have a big effect on you, on your personality. The Prophet peace be upon him changed the names of the companions whose names had a negative meaning to them [like Harb, which means war, and Murrah, which means bitterness]. The name shouldnt be something that is against the teachings of Islam [like Abdul Uzzah, meaning the servant of Uzzah]. If someone converts to Islam, they dont have to change their name unless it has a negative or unIslamic meaning

Its sad to see parents picking a name for their baby solely based on what "sounds nice". Or others just try to look for "neutral" names, that arent perceived as being "odd-sounding" in the west. That shouldnt be your only criteria. We should choose a name for our child that helps nurture good, righteous qualities and helps foster a strong Islamic identity in them
