What i find helps, is putting a cd of these surah’s in the car. Whenever you go driving, put it on. Eventually the kids will pick up on it. We have nasheeds in the car, and one day my nephew (8 months old) was humming to it. Not in tune though. We thought it’s just a coincidence, but everytime we would pause it, he’d stop too.
Or if they can read, put a print out of it on the fridge
My younger sister memorized Ayat ul Kursi before I did.And from what I remember she used to recite it daily. So that helped her.
If your kids can read Arabic, this technique of repeated recitations might help.
Or something what they hear daily. My kid has been hearing the 1st kalma from em,her nana bu etc and she has picked it up.It is not perfectly correct atm but I am sure hearing it over and over will help her.
Njgal, this is how I did it, and it worked really really well for me , but you will need to spend some time with the kids ..
Initial few days , give them a few lines to learn each day , along with the meaning coz that makes the memorization alot easier.
Once they are done , then for the next few days do the following exercise with them every single day for at least 15 minutes :
Get them to start reciting it, if they get stuck, they can look at the text but have to start from the beginning. Do this everytime they get stuck, even a small mistake and start from the beginning.
A few days of doing this and they will have repeated it so many times that they will never ever forget it
I was 5 when I learnt it and till date its there in my head. If someone asks me to start reciting it from halfway, I cant do it , It gets all mixed up. But do it from the start and not a chance that I will make a mistake
make them repeat after you everyday.. im in the habit of reading ayatul kursi 3 times a day.. in the morning upon waking up, when heading out the door and at bedtime. each time i ask midget to repeat after me. been doing this ever since he learned to talk.
he knows the jist of it and is coming along great. its a pretty long dua for small kids. this is how he learned his kalma, sonay ki dua, utnay ki dua and his 2nd and 3rd kalma.
repition.
otherwise your girls are a bit bigger… have they started reading quran? maybe sit them down everyday for a one on one and give them a line to read everyday.. memorize. the next day they read it and you give them another line to memorize and the next day they read them both out etc.
Repeat after me has always worked as well. We have a bedtime ritual…we start with Shahada…go to Surah Fatiha, on to 4 qul and then whatever Surah they are assigned in Sunday School. My boys now have appx 10-12 surahs memorized. My husband is also real good about teaching them during car rides…he’s actually the one who got them to memorize Ayat Ul Kursi, before I had even thought about getting them started on it
