I’m new here and I just wanted to ask a very serious question and hope that you all here can help me out. I wanted to ask has anyone or do you know of anyone who has had their wisdom tooth taken out with surgery? My oral surgeon told me that my tooth is setting on a nerve and that it is possible that there will be permanent numbness. I want to ask has anyone had a wisdom tooth that was setting on a nerve? if so what happened, was it risky? Please I am asking for some advice and help here.
I don't know of a case where the tooth was lying on a nerve but i'm familiar with one in which the set of wisdom teeth one side (upper and lower) were taken out because their fillings went bad.
Talk to your doctor to find out in detail what he means by 'there will be permanent numbness'.
As for the surgical procedure itself, it's just under one hour including pre-op consultation. They tell you what will be done and then administer anaesthesia which knocks you out in no time and you feel nothing.. well at least till it wears off..
You will be prescribed an antibiotic (i know where Clindamycin was prescribed) and also some ibuprofin for killing the pain.
There will be considerable swelling for around five days .. after that it will start receding. You won't be able to take solids the first few days but can take mashed potatos, milkshakes or soups.
I dont know about wisdom teeth on a nerve but I got al 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled out a couple days. As Baba G said, they gave you a local anesthesia. I was knocked out for quite a few hours. After it wore off, my gums were swollen up a lil bit and my mouth was kinda sore but nothing major. The doctor gave me motrin, percocett and an oral rinse. Wasnt bad at all. But I would be a little more careful if your teeth lie on a nerve, abt infections and stuff. Good luck :)
