Help! Want to go to Malaysia but clueless!

I want to treat my hubby with a trip to Malaysia! We live in Toronto and plan to go in either Dec or Jan.

Does anyone know any good sites where we could find really cheap flights? The thing is we want to go to Kuala Lumpur first and stay there for about 5 days and then fly to Langkawi from there to spend another 4 to 5 days before coming back to Toronto. The prices I am seeing online are through the roof because apparently airfare is more costly if you have a stop over in between as opposed to going straight to Langkawi.

Some travel agent quoted me $2000 CAD per person for return. Is that reasonable or should I be able to get a better deal online or elsewhere?

Also, can people that have visted Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi please give me some ideas of attractions and places to visit and activities/things to do? I know Kuala Lumpur is also known for shopping so please provide me with the best malls/shops to go for the nicest clothes and deals.

Please help…my hubby planed the last trip so I promised him I’d plan it this time but I am so clueless about this stuff!!!

Oh yea and any suggestions of hotels to stay at would be great. We don’t care if it is luxurious or not, we just want to make sure it is clean and close to all the attractions/shopping etc.

Thanks in advance people. I know there are people here that have been to Malaysia so I really hope to hear from you guys/gyals!

Re: Help! Want to go to Malaysia but clueless!

If you want to travel within Malaysia and/or surrounding countries, try taking local airlines, such as airasia and tiger airlines, there are many
local airlines that offer tickets as cheap as less than 50 USD to surrounding countries and local cities.

For shopping and attractions, you don;t need special guide, just pick their city map and local attractions map at the airport for free. It will have
everything anyone will suggest you from shopping to dinning and fun.

I book hotels through hotelclub.com, they have nice deals there, i don;t remember the name of the hotel i stayed in Malaysia, and my net is too slow right now to seach it, but it was a very nice hotel in a very reasonable price, very close to city center and on walking distance to
some very famous shopping areas.

If you have long stay in KL do try going to Geneting highland resort for a couple of days, It;s a very nice place. worth visiting!!
