In September 1999 Adnan Chaudhry came to the US as an F1 student . He is only 21 years old. Two months after his arrival in this country, he was falsely implicated in a murder attempt case as a Muslim fanatic who had come to the US with the sole intent of carrying out this crime. Adnan has been implicated on false charges and is facing the possibility of being awarded life imprisonment for something he hasn’t done.
Adnan belongs to a respectable family of Lahore. After doing his Mechanical Engineering from Lahore, Pakistan and completing other prerequisites such as GMAT, TOFEL etc., he got admission in the Cal State University, San Bernardino for his MBA degree on a student visa in September 1999. He started sharing an apartment with three other foreign students close to the campus. Two of his apartment companions of African origin often provoked him with questions about Islam, made fun of him, and insisted to know why Adnan didn’t eat pork. He politely explained the reason and said that every person had a right to practice his religion and belief, and no one should make fun of him. He was in the process of shifting from the apartment, but before that could take place, the verbal harassment turned physical. On the night of November 30, 1999 when Adnan returned from the campus after attending evening classes the two apartment companions started ridiculing his religion and beliefs and forced him to eat por
k. He resisted and refused but they kept on insisting. One of them passed disparaging remarks about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and later pounced upon him and started pushing him towards the stove. As a result Adnan received burn injuries in several places, including his face and arms.
Adnan was in a state of panic, shouted for help and the police in order to ward off the assailants. But his apartment companions called the police and convinced them that he was a religious fanatic and the whole thing was pre-mediated.
Adnan has been booked on very serious charges and could face a lifeterm in jail. He had come here for education, looking forward to a bright career. Instead, he has landed in serious trouble and his family is shocked and in a state of grief. Being his elder brother, I have come here to help him out of this tragic situation. With the help of the local community, I have hired an attorney with a good track record of handling such cases. He is demanding $20,000 as his fee. Also, Adnan’s bail amount is set at $500,000 which is far beyond our financial resources. I appeal to you to assist me in any way you can. My brothers i have contacted Adnan’s brother Imran. Who is here to help his brother out. “The case of my brother adnan is presently in sanbernardino Superior Court, and is sheduled for trail on 20th Nov. 2000.”
