i have windows XP installed on my desktop…
today when i re-started my computer and it asked for the password to log in,it does not recognize that password…
and a message pops saying if i have forgotten my password…
i have tried re starting it 10 times but it still does not recognizing that old password…
what happened to it…??..someone told me it might be hacked…
what can i do now…??
i just cant imagine how much info have on it and what i might be losing…
i tried doing it in the safe mode too...but it eventually brings me to the same thing...
it was set as 'administrator' only and there were no other user names/user accounts....
someone just told me that windows XP might have reset the password itself...is it possible for sth like this to happen....???
nothing is making sense to me....
i did call tech support and they said that they can come over and try to reset the password and open the computer and do sth with the hard drive....it will cost me around $200....
but at the same time they said that if it was hacked then whatever information was to be stolen might have been stolen by then....
It is possible that the password may have expired.
There are a few ways to get around and resetting the password.
Install a parallel OS on a partition or a separate HDD, then u can login from there, gain access to ur current setup and HDD and reset.

This is an emergency boot file, install that on a floppy and boot from there..it will allow you to erase the admin password and set it to blank. then u can login to windows and change/create a new password.
Hope it helps…
report back plz…
PS: It shouldn’t ask for a password in Safe Mode :hmmm: if you start in safe mode, and can login. You will be able to change the password and then restart Normally.
thanks teggy....!
i tried making that disc and booting from there...but it did not work....:(
it said there was a format compatibility thing...God knows what ...
we just ended up reformatting the whole thing and installing windows XP home edition...so in a nut shell i have lost everything ...all documents and pictures....:(
Did not you just say that you reformated the disk and installed XP Home edition ..
anyway , you still can get some of your files and photos back .. but you have to stop using that disk .. buy a new hard drive, replace that with the old one and re-install xp on new drive
attach the old drive as secondary..
you have to download file recovery software (google for it) and scan your old drive through that .. you will be surprise how many files that you think are gone now can be revovered
well, in my case, i made a password for my account and i forgot it next day, i tried safe mode and went to user accounts via control pannel and delelte the password! and is all fine now!
