Help strangers

You are buying daily grocery item . An stranger comes and asks for help and request an item.

What will you do? How will find out genuine person need help?

Have you been in such situation?

Re: Help strangers

If I am able to, I do and I have it done it a few times. I never think whether the person is actually needy or not. Begging is not fun and I highly doubt it’s the easy way out. You cannot and should not waste time thinking if the person genuinely needs your help. I once gave all my groceries to a homeless woman because she was standing outside the grocery store with a kid.

Re: Help strangers

^May Allah reward you for giving your groceries to the woman, and May Allah have mercy on that woman, Ameen

I usually help out a stranger. If they’re asking for money and I have it, I will give an amount between $1-20. If other assistance, then assess the situation. Allah knows what situation the asker is in.

Re: Help strangers

I wouldn’t doubt a person asking for food.

Re: Help strangers

If the person is asking for money and using the best judgement if he appears to be an addict, then tbh no way i’m going to help him. But if he asks for anything edible then there is no second thought i’ll go get that for him. Its the least we can do for them. They are still a part of our society and humans just like us.

Re: Help strangers

I would never refuse a person that is asking for food. I can’t. I don’t think that I would be able to eat another bite if I had refused that person.
Heck, my cats are used to begging for treats when someone comes home from outside…they will go to their bowls and sit there until you give them a treat…I can’t even deny them knowing full well that they have a full self-dispensing container of food just three feet over so how can I deny a human?

In some places there are people that will stand at the exit of a highway, holding a sign saying “Need Help. God Bless You” or “Hungry. No Money for Food”. Most times it seems that these people just expect you to give them some coins and Allah knows what they do with that money, so I try not to encourage them. But one day I had just purchased a slice of pizza and a bottle of Coke for lunch on the run and to test the situation, when the woman approached my window with her sign, I offered her the remaining slice (the original piece had been sliced into two portions) and half-consumed bottle of Coke. She actually took them both, went back to the corner and sat there eating. Now I try to give them $1 or $2 because at the end of the day, that sort of change does not make a difference in my life, but maybe it might in theirs’.

Long time ago we were at square one once (shopping mall) I was really young like probably in grade 10, Ammi was inside a store, I got bored and stood outside starring at the ceiling
And a youngish man approached me and said ‘I was looking for work all day and I am really hungry - buy me food if you don’t believe me, I’m really hungry’ my instant bratty reaction I got really mad, Ammi came rushing out and calmed me down, I still remember she sternly told me to keep quiet and my mom never ever gets mad at me like kabhi nahee, so I just stood there moonh banna kay, but Ammi talked to him for a few mins and gave him $20 to buy food and eat. Ammi told me never refuse anyone who asks for help especially for food
Now almost 18 years later with 3 kids of my own I know so much what I didn’t care to know back then, I give money even when it’s not asked with a reminder in my head that I could very well be in that person’s place
