Guys, I am dying here… I had 4 tablespoons of Benefiber, 5 prunes and not a single dent in my system… my friend was shocked when she heard that 5 prunes haven’t done a single thing… for her 1-2 usually do the deed… I realize everyone is different but what should I be doing???
I am severely severely constipated… and the stomach pain is killing me… any other recommendations… I don’t think I can go on like this… I can’t sleep and just want this ordeal (constipation not pregnancy) to end…
Try Miralax after talking with your OB/GYN, I think its safe in pregnancy... but still do ask her before taking it.
My husband has chronic constipation, he takes Miralax now and then and its helps a lot, its very safe as its not absorbed into the bloodstream.
My daughter also went through a sever constipation cycle (when she was 3), her Ped put her on Miralax for 3 months and I incorporated a lot of fruits in her diet. She has not been constipated ever since.... try to incorporate lots of fruits in your diet on regular basis and inshaAllah you will be more regular. Meanwhile Miralax should be a quick fix if your doctor gives you the thumbs-up.

P.S. prune juice is better than prunes themselves, try prune juice.
i had an issue with constipation few days ago...im also expecting, i had some fibre rich bread, lots of water and some ispagol.......few hours later...
At this stage, you can try a glycerin suppository. These are not good to use on a regular basis but for those occasional times when you get completely clogged, they provide releif within 10 to 15 minutes. They were a godsend for me a couple of times and also for my boys.
Once you get past this clog, make sure you keep lots and lots of fiber in your diet - prunes or benefiber are natural and very safe for both pregnant moms and for infants. If you dont like prunes, mix pureed prunes or prune juice into a vanilla milkshake and its really quite delightful.
guys I just talked to my ob/gyn and she told me to take glycerin suppositories....I only had infant ones available... so took two of those ..they helped just slightly... she told me to get off of benefiber... coz it doesn't help in passing stool.... she said to take fiber by way of fruits and veggies...
any idea how many servings of fruits and veggies I should be taking... ???
too much fiber also causes constipation (especially the supplements). take natural sources like oranges, prunes, grapes, whole wheat bread. never take more than 1-2 spoons of fiber supplements.

make it a part of ure diet from now till a few weeks after u have had ure delivery cuz its not healthy to get constipation in pregnancy and a risk for haemorroids (sp?) after delivery
a glass a day intially since ure so badly constipated... and then half a glass everyday
i used to drink it everyday out of fear and never got constipation in my pregnancy or after delivery
if u are on iron supplements, that also induces constipation but taking it with orange juice eases it a bit. also helps dissolve the iron in ure system better.
plus.. prune juice is a great source for iron so its juts all round goodness :)
Prune juice is what i swear by. It usually takes a few hours for it to work but if you are already clogged, than i think suppositories would be the way to go for now. Then take half a glass of prune juice every day or every other day. Hope you feel better soon!
