Help!!!!! Saree issue - advice needed!

Hi guppies,

I need advice from youguys. I ordered some sarees when I was in Lahore a few months ago, gave naap and my dad recently brought these sarees to Toronto from Lahore. There are 3 kaam wali sarees and 2 ready made ones that I got stiched. They’re all stitched, with the belt etc. There are borders on all the sarees.

The problem is that the sarees are all way too long for me!!! I don’t even know if can get them altered? I’m going to see a tailor about them next week. The sarees are part of my jahaiz and expensive and I love them all. I’m so sad that they got messed up. I always seem to get the length of my sarees wrong somehow. Has anyone else had this issue? Any advice? :frowning:

Re: Help!!!!! Saree issue - advice needed!

are saree's not standard length??

you can fold the material inwards from the top ? it may make you bulge out though... or alternatively go to the tailors and have the belt removed and rebelted to the correct length?

SoniaA - I would like to get the sarees shortened and then the belt put on again. But as 3 of them have heavy kaam on both sides and even the ready made ones have kaam on both sides (though lighter), I'm wondering if it can be done? Have you ever had the issue yourself? I just don't want the sarees to be ruined in getting fixed. :-(

But they don't usually put kaam at the top part. That's odd. If it weren't a belted sari, you would be tucking them in further at the top, so get them restitched that way.

i was going to say the same thing... the belted portion shouldnt have such heavy kaam that it cant be cut :)

Re: Help!!! Saree issue - advice needed!

I had the opp problem! Ordered some designer saris from india and they were shockinly short in length..im no tall girl… Upon asking i was told…erm yes…its meant to be tied at ure pubic bone line  just like in the movies… Holy moly.

Im sure the fabric can be cut and belt made again… Get it checked.
