Recently I bought a 1996 US version Honda Accord. It was shipped from New Jersey, and I was looking for a temporary car until I could get my hands on another vehicle.
Now recently the car has developed a whole list of problems. Major problem was oil leak, which I took care of by spending $300 on new original parts. Now ever since the mechanic(Pakistani) has opened up the entire engine & closed it back again, the Engine Control Computer, located in the front passenger side, has “busted”. The engine does not rev any higher than 3000, although the car’s ignition is smooth.
The mechanic told me its a ECC problem, and he installed an ECC from a friend’s Accord of a similar model, & my car worked fine. When my car came to the garage, it had an “Engine Check” light on. Although I had taken the car on 180 kph on a straight highway, it doesn’t seem to rev higher than 3000. I dont trust this guy. (Dont ask me who took me there, coz I already feel like murdering him)
Does anyone have a clue, if this is really a computer problem or a transmission problem…?
A new ECC costs $388 excluding shipping and insurance. I would also like to know where can I find parts in US, on the web, at a reasonable price?
