I really wish i knew of such programs after i graduated highschool. the only option for me was pakistan, and frankly, i didn’t wanna do that so it was 4 years of uni for me I was looking at some other med schools, and came across UKCM’s med school (or something like that. it’s in missouri). They also offer the direct after highschool program.
BTW mahiya, forgot to mention, where are you planning on working after your degree? If you are looking to come to US/Canada, i would recommend looking into schools that have the IMED/FAIMER recognition, as well as WHO’s recognition. It will make it so much easy for you once you are going to write your USMLE and go into residency programs. Since Canada relies much on the FAIMER to grant residency status as well (i forget what it’s called…C-something) your best bet would be to look into those schools.
mahiya there are schools in carribean and greneda etc that do the same, if that is a realistic possibility for you. I think manila also had something similar.
I hae pals who graduated from carribean and greneda etc and are practising in US now
k well i live in canada and just want to skip my BSc cuz i see it as pointless and time consuming especially if i can get into med school without it...
in canada we dont have direct med programs so thats y im looking at pak adn middle east... i was hoping for an islamic environment so no carribean for me...
also i was hoping for american standard universities hence the ones i have listed..if any one knows some others plz tell me
Why don't you look into US med schools as well? Though you will have to look out for the US citizen clause, because some med schools seem to have them.
i've looked into the u.s. too but the thing is my parents (mostly dad) doesnt want me to study in a non-islamic environment cuz im a girl etc etc etc bla bla bla!!!
thats y im looking for something islamic...
pakistan, middle east or whatever
so basically he does not trust you or your judgement?
lets just say anything you can do in carribean, you can do at agha khan Uni.
I have pals and cousins who went to AKU, and those who wanted to party did just that, those who did not, did not. of course the level and nature of the partying were different, but at some point in time, personal choices become a bigger factor than what is socially acceptable
sorry, I dont want to give you a lecture and can understand your dad's concern, but I think it is a little misplaced. I suppose with any of these places dorms are out as a living option?
X2 im not that kind of girl at all... my "partying" is events at the masjid to be honest..
my parents know i would never get into nething like that ...i guess they just dont want me to be around bad stuff (for lack of better term) ...
obviously even if i go to pak or qatar or wherever i will meet all kinds of ppl like u said but i think they think that in an islamic environment theres more of a choice of meeting less ppl like that maybe..
dorms are definitely not out... i dont know how u got that?

hate to rain on your parade, but believe me, all sorts of people are found in all sorts of environment. :D i think i've met more party-minded people here in one of the islamic countries than i did back home in Canada.
but i do get your dad's concern, being a girl myself.

i did not say you were that kind of girl, but the point was u hae all kinds of ppl at all places and u have to determine who u will hang with and what u will do. The dorms question came up because if teh cncern is about atmosphere and company, I know dorms of agha khan, I have been there, Ihave partied there...yes I am exactly That kind of guy, or well was back in the day. so I know first hand about AKu dorms and the islamic enviornment there :)

Well you may find every kind of ppl every where and it may depend on you whom you will hang with but being a parent you will be careful. You cannot send your daughter or kid to an environment which is visibly not nice or not appropriate for your kid. No parent can do that purposely.
You can find a lot better institutes in Islamic countries too. But mahiya if you have to select from Riyad Qatar and Pak then I would suggest Pak. The standard there is far high, the teachers more experienced and degree is better recognized as compared to UAE, and KSA degrees.
Ayoub Madical College
Abottabad Med College for Women
Kind Edward Lahore
Fathimah Jinnah College Lahore and many many more.
well fairly tale lets say there are 3 groups and lets limit them to people with Pakistani background
1) Parents in Pakistan
2) Parents in an islamic country
3) Parents in thw west
My assessment is that
more ppl in group 1 send their kids to the west than to other islamic countries
more people in group 2 send their kids to the west than to another islamic country
more people in group 3 send their kids to a uni in the west than to some islamic country
and that negates your statement on someone not sending their kid to an atmopshere which is 'visibly' not nice or not appropriate for your kid.
The issue here is not that the environment is not right, but about the parents thinking about the atmosphere, which in my opinion needs a little sorting out.
I mean how can someone live in Canada and say oh you can not study in dominican republic or newjersey.
ooook thats just how my parents r..
i dont really care abt arguing or debating abt that right now..
i just wanted to know abt some select universities or if neone else has some suggestions..
mahiya, the intent here is that if other ppl scan the threads later for information, it may be valuable to someone else too, this way the thread becomes a resource for others who may be wondering the same thing in a few week, months or even years.
k u joined gupshup 10 years b4 me so u obviously know more...
um the thing with many of these universities ppl have listed is that they are not american standard...
i know that the few i mentioned are and would like to know if there are ne more?
