I have decided to start cooking in order to help my mum and prepare for the future i.e. after marriage etc…so i got this cook book yesterday, it has some great desert recipes as well but a lot of the recipes require gelatin (which is prohibited in Islam) so does anyone know why they use gelatin for, what does it do to the food? and what can i use as a substitute? or can someone please post some links to desert the Pakistani way - where can i find Rahats recipes?

gelatin so far i have used only in ice-cream but it is used in other desserts as well so better get the halal gelatin...u can easily get from any paki store...

gelatine is used to thicken and set the dessert
just lyk jelly its gelatine
so its basically used to set the dessert
u cant use anything as a substitute for it
but u can get halal gelatine if u can
