Salaam you all.
You know how they say you should start good deeds from home, well I decided to give my family an iftar dawat. So you guys help me plan a menu..
something that combines iftar and dinner because we end up not eating dinner after a heavy iftar. Heres what I have so far.
the Chicken egg rolls that Gucci and FF posted
dhahee barai (salman loves them)
Mudd cake for dessert
now you guys suggest a main course and some sort of rice and veggie dish
munniya i suggest that if its an iftari then the main course should be relatively simple, you can always try egg or vegetable fried rice with a chicken dish like fried chicken on side or sumthing like that, I won't suggest any fancy names because i know people don't tend to eat a lot in iftar parties so it should be a li'l dfferent from a normal dinner. or you can have kebabs if you want.
cholay white one (however you like to eat), aaloo and chicken tikya, mind blowing hari mirch + lemon chatni. And palak paneer is good for veggie dish, but I am not sure what your folks like. Biryani is heavy after iftar, so proly go for aaloo gosht with plain rice, or something like that.
channay bhatooray but that’ll probably get too heavy but then again its your own family so they won;t be in a hurry to leave and u can all take ur time while eating.
my mum makes rice with seekh kebab and small chopped veges in them and adds spices to the rice too that turns out yummy esp with chutney.
How about this Seb ka raita (yogurt with appel). It's nice and cooling afer a day of roza:
(about 4 people)
3 dl yogurt
1 tsp roasted and grinded cumins
1/4 tsp chillipowder
1/2 tea spoon fresly grated ginger
1/2 - 1 tsp salt
half a huge, hard green apple
Pour the yogurt in a bowl. Slightly beat it with a fork to make it more smooth. Then add the cumins, chilipowder, ginger and salt and mix everything and put it in the fridge.
Before serving peel the apple and grate it before you mix it in the yogurt.
about 200-250 gr basmati rice
1-2 table spoons sunflower oil
1 chopped onion
1 toe of garlic, squeezed
1 huge carrot, grated
1 tsp cuminseed
2 tsp grided coriander (english word?)
4 elaichi
1 laurel leaf
4,50-5 dl yakhni (from chicken or use just water)
small packet of nuts without salt on them (about 50-75 gr)
salt and freshly grinded black pepper
chopped fresh dhanya (coriander)
chawwal dho kar bowl mai dalo, pour cold water over it and leave it for about 30 minutes before you straine it
heat the oil and add the onion, garlic and carrot and bake it for about 5 minutes
then add the rice, cumin seed, grinded coriander, elaichi and laurel leave. Bake for about 2 minutes until
pour the yakhni or water over the rice mixture and add salt and pepper. Boil the whole thing and close it with the lid, leave it for about ten minutes on low gass.
Remove the pan from the gas without taking off the lid and leave it 5 minutes.
mix the nuts in the rice and garnish with the chopped dhanya
harimirch ko grind ker lien lemon ke saath ke itna lemon ho ke taizi na hone ke barabar reh jae and then add a lil salt to taste. Mostly my ingridients have tamarind in it too, its tamarind water that I use, so it kills the hotness of the green chilly. But again not many ppl are crazy about khata stuff like me. You can also add sugar in it, it tastes good.
