Who are We: **We are the folks behind the Independence Day celebrations in the city of Los Angeles or as we call it Pak Day LA. We are a group of friends and volunteers dedicated to bring the community together every year around August 14th and project a positive image of our homeland and our culture. We have been doing this for the past 5 to 6 years now and are well known and respected amongst the Pakistani and American communities in Los Angeles. We are a non-profit organization and all members work on a voluntary basis. Some of our team members have helped with earthquake relief efforts in 2005 by volunteering to travel to the affected areas and be part of the relief first hand.

Our Current Mission: **The organizing committee of Pak Day LA has now accepted another challenge. We are now helping the victims of the flood disaster either through monetary means or with food and supplies. For this we have teamed up with Fakhr-e-Alam and PIA in Pakistan. We have developed a website, started a facebook group and started a blog - with daily updates from a very dedicated group of volunteers. We have gotten the youth involved through facebook who have held awareness rallies and are doing their part in their respective colleges and schools to bring to the attention of mainstream media the scope of this disaster.
We are also in touch with Pakistan Army/GHQ and other relief agencies. They have their people working around the clock providing releif and rescue to the affectees and have the most effective logistical network in place. Through our community we are collecting read-to-eat halal foods, tents for temporary housing, and other necessary supplies. These items will be distributed to the flood victims under the direct supervision of our project and distribution coordinator, Yousaf Keekeebhai, who will be traveling to Pakistan shortly to lead from there.

There is a whole lot of useful information on the website. Look around and if you want to be part of this noble cause, you are more than welcome to join. You dont need to be from LA to be part of this effort.
