Help - Outlook express

Re: Help - Outlook express

Just to make sure i got the problem right, so ur OE is receiving emails, but u only c the ones after Oct 4th? If that's the case, i've seen a similar problem before...in that case, OE had created a 2nd dbx file for the inbox...

  1. find the location where OE is storing all of your emails

easy way to do it, launch OE, click on Tools --> Options, select "Maintenance" and click on the "Store Folder" button...it should give u an exact path where the emails are being stored - typically it's C:\Documents and Settings\loginID\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities{some-hex-characters}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

  1. browse to that folder, and see if you have an "inbox" and "inbox(1)" file, along with a file for every other folder u c in your OE (such as sent items, drafts, deleted items etc) - if your do see multiple instances of "inbox" as mentioned above, that's the problem!!

  2. create a new "temp" folder in OE, and move all your current emails from the inbox to the temp folder

  3. close out OE

  4. back in the store folder, delete the latest version of the inbox DBX file typically it's "inbox(1)") - to ensure u r getting rid of the latest version, enable the details view (view --> details) and compare the details for the inbox DBX files to see which one was modified more recently

  5. also delete the "folders" dbx file

  6. cross ur fingers and restart OE - and hope all the missing emails are showing again in the inbox :D

if that works, make sure u move the emails to a PST file etc, cuz chances are, the DBX file was at it's limit and hence OE created a new "inbox" for u...once u've moved the emails to an archive, then u can move the emails from the "temp" folder created in step 3. back to the inbox

hope this helps :) let me know if it works out...
