Help needed to deal with Excel Communications

I was enticed to join Excel Communications over a year ago. I did and then within two months, my phone bill came to be $2,500.00. My inlaws are in U.K. They charged us like $6.50 per minute. When we had joined this company we were with AT&T who charged us .10c per min to U.K.

They have been billing us for over 13 mons. and the wife gets on the horn with them and tells them that if they want us to pay they need to adjust the rate down to what we were paying and are paying with another company.

They haven’t blinked.

I am thinking of doing the adjustment myself and writing a check to them with the statement on the back that cashing this check will settle all charges and account between myself and the company and that the company will not bill us for any other amounts.

I haven’t begin to blow my top since wife does the billing and deals with this company. The company hasn’t taken any extra-ordinary steps up to now.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Questions that need to be asked are where any guarantees/ quototions/ literature given to you about the rates that Excel would charge you to ring pakistan. Did they claim to be cheaper than AT&T, what were the terms and conditions shown on the contract that you signed, is there any hidden small print talking about surcharges to certain numbers. $6.50 is extortion, it sounds like you've been using a premium rate service to ring Pakistan. You should contact your local consumer advice centre (if there is one) to find out what steps you can take. If your complaint is still on-going with the supplier than you should contact your telecommunications watchdog for your area.

you can file a complaint at BBB and federal communications in USA. Both can be done online.

DHP and Zahid_Ind - Thanks for the input. I was rolled in the program by a guppie here. There was no contract that was signed but the claims were verbal and we had informed them of the rates we were paying at the time to which they had agreed to match.

I appologize for the late reply. I had been off the net from home due to some cicumstances and couldn't get to this site from work due to company policies regarding chat sites.

Let me find out some information and see what I can do in light of your input. If I have more information then I'll update here.

Thanks again.
