I have a six and half month old son who is suffering from Eczema. We have tried various lotions/ointments that have been prescribed for him by our GP. Although the inflamation/itching has reduced, he is far from being 100%.
My wife and I have checked various websites and have written to ‘National Eczema Society’. We have received lots of useful information form them, in particular about the diet, and the type of materials the baby might be wearing which could cause further irritation. We now only put cotton clothes on him. This has helped a lot.
I fully understand that his condtion may well be just childhood Eczema which may disappear in a year or so. However, as a parent it is very disconcerting to see our son in such discomfort.
Now, the questions I have for you are as follows:
Do you know of any desi/traditional remedies which could be tried ?
Do you have any alternative suggestions or things we could try ?.
We look forward to your replies, and thank you in advance for your help.
I have had some experience with eczema with my children - there is a lot that is avaiable, but especially from alternative medicine sources.
First thing to be ruled out is food allergy. Number one suspect is cow's milk. Breastfeeding is best for thebaby, with mother carefully avoiding milk and milk products. If not possible you can try a hypo- allergenic formula. Other foods can cause eczema - eggs, citrus, etc.
Some alternative approaches to curing eczema:
- homeopathic medicine
- Unani medicine
- Some types of physical manipulation techniques such as those offered by chiropracters on naturopaths (try osteopathy)
- supplementing with essential fatty acids
gotta run, but if you are interested e-mail me al [email protected] and I will see what I can get for you.
Ugh you must be having such a hard time
i understand cause my daughter has it too
all you can do is just sit there and wonder what next
Ok so i have tried lotions and potions and all that rubbish
baby lotions bloody expensive and baby oils and all that googooo gaagaa stuff
nothing works
Eczema, the doctors reckon is very common among asian babies and will go away with age
but really its hard for the parents once the baby learns how to scratch itself to death
Dont use soap
Try Sorbolene or some other kind of cleansing cream
I use Alpha Kerri Oil and Alpha Kerri Lotion
in combination
So fill the bath tub with water add the Oil in it and make the baby soak in it for a good fifteen minutes
then pat dry with the towel and rub in the lotion
After trying every thing and listenning to doctors tell me it will go away or there is no ilaaj for it
then one day i was at the doctor's and my GP was out of town and there was a subsitute Indian doctor filling in
and he suggested Alpha Kerri
So i reckon try desi doctors who actually know desi skin and all rather then gora doctor who has no idea
If you can this is a bit messy fill the tub with warm water and pour in Oatmeal (yes the cereal) and soak the baby for fifteen minutes
the result is obvious
but its a bit messy so not many ppl try it

Anchal, thanks for this info. We will try this.
At presnt we have been using something called 'Oilatum Bath liquid' and an 'Emulsifying Ointment' instead of soap.
when it come to baby Eczema it is thought that it could not be cured only suppressed but that’s not how it works … it is not impossible to get rid of it ..!! only by choosing the right remedy for it and taking the precautions for it ..!!
My mother had this all over her hands, in her PALMS for yearsssssssss (maybe about a good 6-7 years)! She couldnt cook, clean, or even wash her hair bc of the shampoo, to the point she used to wear latex gloves to do any of these things. Somehow she stumbled across a soap called BASIS, and believe it or not both of her hands were wiped CLEAR of it in a matter of a week or so.
Then my cousin's baby got it, and my mom recommended the same soap, and his went away also! Same thing with me, I got it on my fingers, and used this soap, and believe it or not, it vanished!
I know its different for everyone, but doesnt hurt to give it a shot. Im in america so you can get this soap at Walmart. If you arent in america, then try to find it online and purchase it via internet.
For me, Double Base worked fine and for bumps Daktacort was excellent or basically any steroid cream with high level of potency.
However I’ll say it again and as mentioned by one of the posters its different for everyone else hence the BEST THING is to go and see your GP. Some things or remedies which work for one may not work for others.
i suffered from childhood eczema way into my late teens. finally i was treated by a homeopath. he never told me the medicine he gav me but it came out with full vengeance and then gone for good. and its more than 10 yrs now and it never came back.
i'm seeing it now in my daughter but as long as i keep her skin moist n protected from carpets she does well.
i also suffered from eczema but i had an allergy test done and chose to cut out everything i was allergic to and my eczema has mashalla gone my skin is healthy i would recommend this to any1 suffering and to cut out things such as wheat dairy and eggs in younger children is much easier as they r not aware of the taste of such thing but you do have to be careful and check ingredients in almost everything x
I have eczema..it is hereditary for me…but I jst found a very simple remedy which worked like magic for me…I was watching “Doctors” on TV 8 months back where they were talking abt fungal skin irritations and etc…and some how **garlic ** came into the conversation…so I chopped up a garlic immediately and put it on my calf and bandaged it…and I did it only twice…it vanished!!! I was shocked I dnt even have the dark patches on my calf coz of it!!! amazing..and all that time I was trying everything while the remedy was sitting in my kitchen!!!
^ wow got to try that out! but doesnt the smell disturb? it doesnt go away very fast right..
ive had eczema since i was a kid, it used to be very bad before, around mouth area, knee area, arms, hands... but now alhamdulillah its much better . i only have it on hands and that too mostly during cold weathers.
but the worst thing is that there are these dark patches left behind which really disturbs me :(
not using soaps and fragraced products really helps, making sure the washing soaps are all free of frangrance etc. is very important. and keeping the skin moisturized and hydrated.
^yeah...the smell is there...but it goes away after you wash it..and blive me...it is all worth it...the best was that the dark patches vanished too...
