HELP! Need suggestions please!

Hello lovely parents,

I am attending a birthday party for a 1 year old boy in five days. He is my cousin’s son, but I have only seen him a couple of times, one of the times being when he was born. So I am not too familiar with his activities etc, making it very hard for me to decide what to get him as a present.

His parents are brainiacs and since I don’t know the kid, I figured the safest option would be to get a book. I found this collection on B&N and really like it but I am still not sure if it is a good present for a 1 year old that I don’t know too well.

So please please please, suggest some pressies!

Re: HELP! Need suggestions please!

Dr. seuss books are great, you can also look into eric carle, his illustrations are veryinfant/ toddler friendly.

Re: HELP! Need suggestions please!

books are ALWAYS a good idea!

board books, in particular, kids love and can’t destroy.

at one, my kiddo loved these books… actually, he still really loves them, and now that he’s starting to understand concepts better, its a lot of fun to read with him.

anything by Sandra Boynton, esp Moo, Baa, La La La and other animal books are always good too.*

Re: HELP! Need suggestions please!

my kid loved board books for years!!
especially the ones with the brightly coloured foil inserts.
we have shared many with friends who had kids later and even saved some of her favourite ones.

is there a Mastermind store near you? perhaps online?
there are a number of unique building block sets that are really good and can be used for years and years.

Muzna I was thinking about building block sets but there are so many options I got confused about which one to buy. Books are something I can understand lol.

My mom says that a toy like a car or truck is a better idea but I dont know how parents feel about receiving toys as gifts?

Thank you SGC and Lusi! Those books look so interesting. I want to buy all of them!!

Re: HELP! Need suggestions please!

Books…the kind that have the big puzzle/block pieces that you fit into them

^Aww. Any names?

My son is one and he loves touch and feel books. I think a nice collection of touch and feel books would be a great gift.

Re: HELP! Need suggestions please!

Besides books, look for two or four piece puzzles, puzzle books, building blocks, musical instruments (check lakeshore learning center, you can find lot of age appropriate gifts).

Re: HELP! Need suggestions please!

Matthew Van Fleet has some great books. My favorite is for ages 2 and up, but I think it’s best to buy for a bit older since the child will already likely have plenty of books and toys suitable for his age. This one comes with a great poster that my kids have enjoyed (destroyed) for years:

One more thing that i got as a gift and came in really ahndy was leap frogs fridge phonics…it would keep my little one busy while i finished cooking and washing in the kitchen

Re: HELP! Need suggestions please!

there are so many great ideas here- books, games, puzzles, etc- you could get any of these and they’d be appreciated.

Re: HELP! Need suggestions please!

My son really loves Eric Carle books so I would also vote for his books. Two favorites are:

  • The Very Hungry Caterpillar
-Brown bear Brown bear, what do you see?

Also:

-I love you through and through

I do think giving a toy is a better idea since all the books are easily available at libraries. I recommend Vtech sit-to-stand Alphabet train Toysrus

Another good toy is LeapFrog Fridge Phonics Magnetic Alphabet Set - Styles May Vary:Amazon:Toys & Games

Re: HELP! Need suggestions please!

^I second The Very Hungry Caterpillar! That along with The Rainbow Fish.

Little kids love them!
