Help - meaning of Urdu phrase

Hi everyone,

I was watching old PTV drama Shama, and I came across a couple of Urdu mahawaras. Can someone tell me what they mean, please?

The first one is: “Wohi Dhag kay teen paat”

and

“Na sood na kapas, kolu say lathum latha.”

I’m not sure if I have heard them correctly, so you can listen to them yourself here (starting at minute 2:59 in the video):

Thanks everyone! I love proper Urdu, and it would be great if someone can help me expand my knowledge.](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oZ5LuhcX3s)

Re: Help - meaning of Urdu phrase

Dhak ke teen paat:**

dhak is a tree with three leafs at it’s pinnacle [it’s a tri-pinnate plant]…this means to do more than one task with one attempt. ya’nii…ek teer se do shikaar yaa ek pan do kaaj…Ity’s basically a Hindi phrase.

dhak tree has beautiful flowers. here is an image of dhak leaves and flowers:**

soot na kapaas, korii se laTTham laTThaa:

soot = cotton thread
kapaas = cotton balls
korii = weaver
laTTham laTThaa = laTh-baazii karnaa
**

so, it means:

**to fight for something which is NOT even there…like, fighting for nothing :slight_smile:

Re: Help - meaning of Urdu phrase

Hmmm, and I always thought that Dhak ke teen paat actually a frustration over no matter how you deal with this person, his reply/stance is always the same .. more like 'kuttay kee dum ..terhi kee terhi'

Ok, I might be wrong.
