For the second year in row I get this really annoying cough, that won’t go away for a good 2 weeks. I’ve been to the doctor but he says it will take it’s sweet time, she gave me cough syrup other than making me really drowsy it doesn’t do smoke. If it helps to know I do suffer from recurrent tonsillitis . Do y’all know any desi treatments for coughs. It’s really getting in the way of my work and at school. Sighz. Help. cough cough
hah! I've had a cough that hasn't gone away since last november. :D And its obviously not anything life-threatening, because I'm not dead yet.
I dont think 2 weeks is enough to start worrying about it.
Belle
I had a very dry cough last winter.
I lasted for like 2 months.
I took 3 different antibiotics which needless to say did not help.
I finally was told to take sudafed (or another brand) regularly for
a week or so. Try that, it may help. Go with non drowsy 12 hour
relief tablets rather then the kind u have to take every 4-6 hrs.
pcg
that's a long time hon.
What did the doc say?
Said it could be a post-nasal drip. Gave me anti-histamines. Didn't work.
I'm convinced its a stress cough. Every time I'm stressed, it gets worse.

If it has been two weeks, it might be bacterial. Take some antibiotics. If you already did then get some stronger ones. Alot of bacteria are resistant these days and alot of time simple amoxicillin does not work which is usually prescribed.
If you get too many recurrent tonsilitis get your immune system checked.
By the way do yu smoke?

If it only comes when you lie down then it might be post nasal drip. Otherwise if it only comes with stress then you may have stress induced asthma. Do yu wheez when you have this cough? If you do then get some bronchodilators and it will go away in seconds and you will feel much better too.
Thanks you guys.
PCG: I know two weeks is no big deal but my new job requires me to talk a lot and i'm around pregnant women up to 7 hours a day, I think it just comes off really rude when you say a word cough than say another word. Also I don't want to get them sick, and since i Just started this job i've used up all the sick time I was given. :(
Proudpakistani: Yeah thats what my doctor was telling me that she thinks its due to a weak immuane system. I don't smoke, if this cough doesn't go away I might take that up though, kidding. I'm seeing her again today so lets see what happens.
Sajal : Goodness 2 months is a long time.
Take honey.
If a cough lasts more than a few weeks , you should definately get it checked.
take honey? I did that last time I had cough and it gave me sore throat too. I added kaali mirch in it too. Prolly too much.
Its Honey and Lemon..the kali mirch thing works too
Boots do a good honey and lemon syrup thing

Yes just honey. Try to take the all natural--- not one of those which usually has other stuff mixed into it.
but taking honey for cough doesn't make sense. It might give you a soothing sensation for a few minutes but the real problem lies with all that phelm sitting around your chest area. That needs to be taken care of by making it exit the body.
Stop wasting your time with desi nuskhaaz and go see a doc.
If its a bacterial cough it'll need anibiotics.
if its a cold/flu cough -honey works.Instead of having to let it run its course.

Funguy, i'm sorry you didn't read my thread correctly. I did see a doctor. Thanks for you advice anyway.
belle if you have one of those facial steamers I suggest you use them..it reduces the swelling in the throat and the tonsils and brings relief...
Else you can always do it over a bowl of hot water..under a sheet so as to trap the steam in.
If you have congestion or headaches it'll bring relief too...
