Re: Help me with my Kitchen ....
I don't like black in the kitchen either. it doesn't give that clean hygienic look or feel. Something light always sits well in the long run. You will quickly get sick of dark colors in the kitchen.
Re: Help me with my Kitchen …
I don’t like the hygienic look.
I absolutely abhor whilte kitchens…they remind me of a laboratory or hospital and that’s not the warm environment that I would want my food prepared in.
If you do under counter and accent lighting then the darkness goes away.
I like cherry coloured wood as well but in the contemporary finishes with long, stainless steel handles on the cupboards and drawers…and nothing beats a black counter top.
This is my kitchen now. It is small and some features still need to be updated but it’s looking better than it used to…
I think we will stain the cupboards a darker colour and change the tile flooring to match the cherry hardwood we have in the other rooms.
Re: Help me with my Kitchen …
Muzna , thats my dream kitchen … lovely lovely … I really want red somewhere in there .. coz we have got these beautiful red curtains and a rug , that I am going to place in the dining room that is right next to the kitchen , Its an open plan …
We also have some perfectly new splashbacks fitted in the kitchen ( between the upper cabinets and the lower cabinet wall area … you know where you have black and grey tiles in the picture …
Would cherry cabs and black worktop go well in that red theme? ![]()
Re: Help me with my Kitchen …
well…we have cherry through out the main floor and we love it.
I know that cherry and black go well together but I don’t know how the darker stain will appear on the currently brown stained cabinets in the kitchen.
Guess we will have to do a test patch.
Hubby is gonna kill me when I tell him that I want to rip out the ceramic flooring cuz we matched the backsplash to it. ![]()
Have you seen the high gloss kitchens in B&Q? There's some really nice ones-including in the colour red.
My kitchen cabinets are pine colour, my walls are pink and the tiles are brushed silver. I love pink.
I've decided that inshallah when we move we will have white high gloss cabinets, with pink walls (gotta have pink, I spend more time in the kitchen than the other half does).
Re: Help me with my Kitchen ....
If you own the home, you should think of its resale value. Don't make such a specific kitchen as red and white that most people wouldn't choose for themselves. My suggestion is to first create a kitchen that is simple and neutral in its basic design and color.
Ok say cabinets are white painted maple. Paint on the wall is a soft, buttery yellow. Granite is a neutral like Santa Cecilia. Then if you have an island, paint that an antiqued, red. Then add red accents, vase, curtains, etc. If you have it in your budget get a pot holder with copper pots over the island. Add a copper range hood, copper sink. This is a very traditional, old world kitchen with red as its main accent color. But a new home owner could easily repaint the island and start over from the neutral basics you started with.
Re: Help me with my Kitchen …
saima absolutely right .. I have that perspective in mind as well … thats why i am going to go for red splash backs for specific areas .. they are easy to replace a few years down the road … and for that reason i am going for either cherry or oak cabinets ![]()
